Chapter 1

It was cold outside, the window had snow covering it causing Nicholas to sigh. He had started the fire place and was in his boxers only. His gentle blue eyes looked out the window and he got up heading to the kitchen. In heaven it never snowed so he had never experienced the cold.

He sipped some bitterness that the humans called coffee. Nicholas had died a long long time ago, when he turned seventeen he decided to fight in the war of 1812 and he died his second week. He had never committed a sin which made it easy for him to become an angel. He opened the refrigerator and frowned, he had eaten all the food he brought yesterday.

He quickly went into his bedroom and put on a long sleeve green shirt with a pair of sweatpants. He then grabbed his wallet and stuck it in his pocket, he also made sure to grab the house key. He walked out the door and a gust of ice cold wind hit him. He shivered but his body adjusted to the cold almost immediately.

He walked down the empty sidewalk, which led to a pretty nice restaurant where a lot of teenage girls hung around. He walked in and was met by a big woman that looked about forty years old, "how many?" She said lazily, "One" was his only response. "Follow me" she led him to a table with a single chair. Then she handed him the menu, "A waiter will be with you shortly" the woman said leaving him alone.

He heard giggling and he turned to where it was coming from and saw a group of girls looking his way. "Hey handsome!" One girl said winking at him. He shrugged and turned back around, "Test 1...2...test test" he turned to the stage where a girl sat in front of a piano. People began cheering as she began playing a slow, sad song.

"Sometimes, I hear you calling my name. And I know what you're gonna say. But I keep going on, you used to say to go away. And now I'm gone and all I have to remember are dreams. And all I have to think about are memories of the time we shared. All the memories I've wasted thinking of you. Sometimes...oh sometimes I miss you." Her voice was soft and smooth. A waitress came up to the table, "Welcome to Randy's grill, what can I do you for?" A young girl about seventeen stood before Nicholas. She was beautiful, her blonde hair was in pigtails and she wore the uniform. She had long eyelashes that showed off her hazel eyes.

"Oh by the way I'm Caroline" she threw in as he soaked in her appearance. "Very nice to meet you, may I have a club special with French fries?" His blue eyes met with hers and she smiled at him. "Sure, what would you like to drink?" She asked him looking at him mysteriously. "Why don't you pick for me?" She smiled, "sure" she turned on her heel and made her way quickly to the back.

"Ah...Lucy the new guy in town is so hot!" She grabbed a cleans glass as she talked to her best friend, Lucy. "Really I've never seen him" Lucy said combing her light brown hair.

"I think he likes me" Caroline said adding ice to the cup, "Come on Caroline...you just met him like two seconds ago." Lucy said rolling her eyes.

"I know but you could tell by the way he looked at me" Caroline said, "hey help me pick out a drink for this guy." She said to Lucy, "Pick the new fizz soda, everyone likes it" Caroline agreed and put the cup down and put a straw inside the drink. "Oh here's his order" she handed Lucy the note with his order on it. "Sure thing" Lucy took it and headed into the kitchen. Caroline made her way towards the table where Nicholas sat listening to the girl that was playing the piano and singing.

"Here you are" she said placing the drink down against the table. "Thank you beautiful" he said and she smiled. "Would you like to hang out some time?" Caroline asked nervously, "Is that you're way of asking me on a date?" He questioned her after taking a sip. "Yeah I guess so" he smirked, he had nothing to lose besides he needed a girl to fall for him.

"Then I say yes, and tomorrow night i'll pick you up. What's your address?" He said pulling grabbing a napkin, she handed him a pen. "It's 625 northern street" she smiled as he wrote Caroline next to the address. "Care to join me Caroline?" He asked and she looked back at the kitchen where Lucy was coming out with his order. "Here you go sir" she said placing it down right in front of him.

"Lucy can I sit with him?" Caroline said smirking, "Sure I can cover for you" Lucy winked and finally looked at him, she absorbed his look. He had dark hair, gorgeous blue eyes, perfect skin, and a muscular body. He looked into her eyes and his heart leapt into his throat, she was gorgeous. She had long light brown hair, pale green eyes, tanned skin, and a crystal white smile.

He had a strange connection to this girl, he pulled his eyes away from her and looked at Caroline.

She was also very beautiful, "okay I'm signing out in about an hour so make sure you can get back there." Lucy said turning back towards the kitchen. "Who was that?" Nicholas said, "Lucy she just had a rough breakup last week" Caroline said and Nicholas nodded.

After talking to him for an hour she had to go back, Lucy had come up to the table. "Sorry to interrupt but I gotta go...so you gotta get back there. See you tomorrow" she said hugging Caroline and waving at Nicholas. She left quickly and Caroline went back to work although everytime she walked by she looked at him. He left about a half hour later, the snow blew against his warm skin. He shivered and he could feel his wings tightening against his back, searching for warmth.

He had become used to the little town, he had been there for a few weeks and he would begin senior year at the beginning of next month. Which was next week, he made it to his comfy home and ran to his room to grab a jacket. He put it on and went back into the living room and sat down on the couch. He took the written on napkin from his pants pocket and stared at the address.

"Caroline" He whispered her name maybe hoping she would love him and he would get accepted back into heaven. He couldn't wait for the date and neither could she.
