If sleep was the answer to your problems, you wouldn't have them. You felt it was the root of them. Sleep was the void of nothing that left false dreams in your head and imprinted silly fears into your heart. You were a victim of both.

This time, neither come. Your sleep goes undisturbed, but that didn't mean it was peaceful. Your thoughts and worries haunt your slumber. You hear them in your head, but they speak without a face. All you see is black. Did that mean you were still dreaming?

You roll uncomfortably, the floor was extra hard even with the blankets. The tears on your cheeks are fresh when you wake. You expect to wake up alone, the sheets beside you cold. You flinch as a gentle hand moves to wipe them away. The raspy voice follows after.

"That had to have been the strangest dream of my life," 001 rumbles, still half asleep

Your eyebrows raise. "You're okay?!"

001 chuckles, furrowing an offended brow. "It takes a lot more than that to get rid of me."

The exhaustion filled your eyes no longer. The thoughts that haunted you dissipated. He was okay. Your stressed mind could rest now, knowing that he was okay.

"What about you?" he murmurs. "They didn't touch you did they?"

You shake your head. "No, I told the guards to fuck off," you snicker. You decide not to tell him the part where the guards tased you and you collapsed in pain before they dragged you back to your room. That would only stress him out.

001 smiles at you. He runs a hand over your head, strokes your hair. "That's my girl," he says.

You smile.

"You're really okay?" you ask once more.

"It'd be nice if the pounding in my head would stop, but otherwise I'm fine."

He sees the frown on your face and tries to laugh it off, only wincing in pain. You reach for the cloth that had fallen from his head and wet it again in the sink. You make sure the water was as cold as you could get it.

You return and place the cloth on his head. "Relax," you coax.

He lets his head fall back in exhaustion and gulps frustratedly. "I don't like being taken care of."

"I really don't care."

He rolls his eyes. "I'll be fine, I just—"

"001, be quiet."

His eyebrows raise in light surprise, but he doesn't speak. Not for another minute.

"So, what about this Alex girl? Did she ever run the DNA test—"

"I told you to be quiet," you nag.

"Since when do I take orders from you?" he starts, pushing your hand away from his head.

"Starting now. Please, lay back down."

He huffs and reconnects his head to the pillow. You lay the wet cloth back on his head and scoff. The sight was a little humourous to you. 001 laying on the makeshift bed like a sick patient, while you sat at the side tending to his wounds. It was like taking care of a child.

"Alex is gone," you mumble.

"What do you mean?"

"It means we screwed up and got caught. No more DNA test."

His eyes darken from curious to concerned. "What about your family?"

"It's in the past," you shrug, "Papa's not my father. That was all I really wanted to know." You shake your head, "It doesn't matter anymore."
