Chapter 14 part 3: "What if he isn't ok?"

"Connor!!!!" Carly yelled and fell to her knees. "Carly? Are you okay?" Amanda called to her as she ran down the hallway. "Oh My God" Amanda said as she looked at Connor laying on the bed. Connor had a mask on his face for breathing, he had a bandage around the top part of his head, I.Vs in both arms, and a sling on his right arm. Carly started to cry. Amanda helped her up and brought her over to the bed to sit down. Carly took Connor's free hand and held it carefully. "Connor? It's me Carly. Can you hear me?" Carly asked trying not to cry. "I don't think he can hear-" "Shut up Amanda!" Carly snapped at her. "Sorry." Amanda sighed. "Connor I am so sorry this is all my fault please wake up I promise I won't go on the camping trip with my dad." Carly started "I will stay with you every second of every minute of every hour of everyday" "Carly?" Carly looked at Connor thinking he woke up. "Connor?" Carly jumped up. "No it's me" Carly looked behind her "Toby!" Carly ran over to Toby and hugged him tight and started to cry. "What happened Amanda?" "Connor got hit by a car pretty badly." Amanda said as she moved a piece of hair out of her face. "It's all my fault" Carly said. "Were you the one driving the car?" Toby asked. "No I can't drive yet." "Then it's not your fault." Toby had a point a very good point. "But I made him mad and he left in such a hurry and got hit." Carly said. "Carly it's fine. It wasn't your fault, he's fine." Toby said as he held Carly's hand. "What if he isn't?" Carly asked, as she looked toward Connor. "What if he isn't ok?"

Later that night Toby stayed for dinner and then stayed the night to comfort Carly. "Toby?" Carly asked. "Are you awake?" "Yeah, what's wrong?" Toby asked. He got out of his sleeping bag and sat on the bed next to Carly and wrapped an arm around her. "I miss Connor." Carly said. "I know Carly. Hopefully he'll wake up soon."

On Thursday afternoon Toby and Carly went to the hospital to see Connor one last time before Carly went on the camping trip with her father that weekend. "Connor?" Carly asked as she walked into the room. "Are you awake? Or am I just dreaming?" Carly asked. "I'm awake Carly, come here" Carly walked up to Connor and gave him a hug. "I missed your green eyes" Carly said with a smile. "Hey Connor good to see you awake." Toby said as he walked into the room with hot chocolate. "Hey Toby! How ya been." Connor asked. "Good. Just here for Carly." Connor smiled and rubbed his hand on Carly's arm. "I'll be able to leave by the time you get back from your trip babe" Connor said. "Really? I have to wait that long to see you?" Carly asked. "Yes but I'm fine go on your trip I'm sure everything will be okay just don't get hit by a car" Connor joked. "Haha very funny" Carly said and leaned down to kiss Connor. "You guys are so cute" Toby laughed. "Thanks" Carly and Connor both said and started to laugh.
