From around the corner, Logan was in his usual spot for skipping class, playing on his phone. Only to be distracted when he heard the sound of someone running. He carefully peeked around the edge to not be seen by any teachers. Though instead of being yelled at for skipping class, he was met with a girl he had never seen before; not all that surprising for the loner boy.
Yet there was something that stuck out about her, besides the fact that she was crying her eyes out by the cherry blossom tree. Maybe it was the fact even though she was bawling her eyes out she still had this grace, beauty even. Logan couldn't quite place it but it was drawing him towards her before he realized it.
Mina noticed blurry shoes right in front of her and slowly looked up. Being met with the sight of a boy who looked like he wanted to die, wearing his uniform as loose as he could get it. In definition, Mina thought that he was a bad boy, the exact opposite of what she needed at the moment.
"What," Mina asked in a snarky, watery tone, already wishing to leave.
"Wow, no need to be rude. I just came over to ask if you were okay," Logan sassily said, while rolling his eyes.
"Of course I'm fine. Only balling my eyes out on my first day of school, just great."
"You're that much of a cry baby?"
Mina quickly stood up screaming, "I'm not a cry baby!"
"Well, not anymore. You stopped crying," Logan stated, with a slight smile.
Mina reached up to touch her cheek, realizing he was right she looked away in embarrassment. "Whatever," she mumbled. "Why are you out here anyway? I may be new but aren't you supposed to be in class?" Mina asked, tilting her head to the right slightly.
Logan blushed slightly and cleared his throat before responding, "Yeah, you're right I should be in class. You're not going to turn me in, are you?"
"Only if we can stay here," Mina responded. Grumbling under her breath with a scowl, "I'm not ready to go back and see that jerk again."
Logan chuckled, nodding in agreement. "Sure, I was going to stay either way."
Mina blushed and looked away saying, "Thank you, you know."
"For what?" Logan asked, glancing back from leading her back to his hiding spot around the corner.
"For cheering me up," Mina paused before continuing, "I needed that."
"No problem," Logan stated, smiling a dopey smile over his shoulder.
They passed time making jokes and being sarcastic, Logan having more fun than he had since he broke up with his girlfriend at the beginning of the school year. Mina felt better after hanging out with him, he made her forget about her past. Even if it was just a few hours, they were hours of bliss.
The bell rang announcing lunch, interrupting their conversation. Leaning against the wall, Logan used it to assist in getting up. He then reached down to Mina offering her help to get up off the floor.
"Need a hand?" Logan asked, smiling the same dopey smile from earlier.
Mina reached out, "Thanks."
"We should head to lunch now. I bet you're hungry," Logan said leading the way.
"Starving, do they have good lunch food," Mina asked hopefully.
"You'll see," Logan said chuckling, "Just follow me."
Mina was taken aback by how huge the cafeteria seemed. Logan glanced over, chuckling at her reaction. "It's not as big as it seems."
"Whatever," Mina mumbled while pouting.
Logan almost let out a breathless, "Cute," blushing when he realized. "Come on, we need to get in line."
Mina nodded following along behind him. They headed back outside towards the courtyard when they came across a crowd of students. Logan groaned, turning around and heading the opposite way.
"Hey, what's all that about?" Mina asked, turning around to follow him.
Logan answered while leading her back to the cherry blossoms. "That was fanboys and girls trying to get an interaction with Nickie."
"Who's Nickie and why is she so popular?"
"Nickie is the daughter of the police chief. He's very influential in society since everyone knows he's a dirty cop, but they can't prove it." Logan said nonchalantly. "So, Nickie can get away with anything."
"Oh," Mina breathed out.
They spent the rest of the day chatting, sending witty banter back and forth. Laughs and giggles that seem as light as the wind ruffling the cherry blossoms. By the time they heard the last bell ring releasing the students, Mina and Logan seemed as though they were friends for a lifetime.
