"my god! these are amazing news, jakey!" the woman exclaimed with pure joy while getting some salad on her plate.

everyone seemed to be in such a great mood ... except heeseung, who almost dropped his food out of his mouth. "heeseung, what do you think?"

the boy cleared his throat, looking at his mother with his eyebrows raised. "it is quite... staggering..." said he, plastering a smile and quickly continuing eating while glancing at jake from time to time. jake rolled his eyes at heeseung, but then carried on with his conversation. "as i was saying, me moving back here was a spontaneous idea. i figured studying and living close to my family and most of my friends would make me feel way better."

for the rest of the evening heeseung was chewing silently his food, not letting a single word out. his mood was completely crashed and he even left the table earlier, saying that he had a headache. and it was partially true because of jake's announcement. great... as if seeing jake during summer wasn't enough, now he had to interact with him for god knows how long. he could already imagine all the ruined halloweens and christmas parties because his mom would obviously want to spend the holidays with their lovely neighbours.

he came back to the living room when the shim family had to leave. for a brief moment his eyes met jake's, who was staring unfazed at him, without breaking contact. heeseung shifted his gaze to another direction after feeling slightly uncomfortable by the other's peer. jake slowly waved at him having a blank expression on his face and the other just simply nodded, acknowledging him.

after they left, heeseung let a sigh of relief as if his suffering ended once that door was closed. "well isn't he lovely?" the boy was taken aback by his mother's words. "who?" he asked as if he hadn't figured out who was mrs. lee referring about. " jake, of course."

heeseung scrunched his nose at the confirmation. "you could say that I guess." he said before heading out back to his bedroom.

a few days later heeseung found himself being dragged by niki outside of his own house. "why can't we just text him?" cried heeseung while trying to stop niki. "because one: relationships don't work like that and two: we have to get him to sign this until tomorrow." demanded niki waving some papers in the air.

"you could've gone alone without dragging me here." said heeseung to which he received no response from the other. despite all the protests, niki reached jake's house and now both of them were standing in front of the door.

"now remember: act like a twenty-two year old." heeseung rolled his eyes at this comment and folded his arms while niki was knocking on the door. "there is a doorbell for something, niki."

the younger didn't get to answer heeseung because he was interrupted by the door opening and revealing a sleepy jake standing confused. "good... morning?" he greeted, receiving a bright smile from niki and a nod from heeseung.

"hi! I brought the papers that we talked about yesterday." niki said while handing the documents to jake who was probably having a staring contest with heeseung for a few seconds now. "oh cool! um... do you want to come over for breakfast?" asked jake, shifting his gaze to niki.

"I don't-" heeseung wanted to deny the request but was interrupted by niki who grabbed his arm and dragged him (again) in jake's house. "oh we would love to."

jake placed three cups of coffee and a box of biscuits on the table and then sat himself in front of niki and heeseung. they chatted for a while, mostly niki and jake, while heeseung was drinking his coffee in silence observing the other two.

"sorry can I use the bathroom for a minute?" asked niki receiving a nod from jake. "it's over there, to the left."

niki went there, leaving the other two at the table in an awkward silence. they both were looking everywhere around as if to avoid any interaction. heeseung grabbed a biscuit and after a moment of thought he said "you barely took two sips of your coffee and haven't touched anything else. did you have breakfast before?" "I'm not hungry." heeseung looked up to him wanting to say something in reply but stopped as soon as he noticed jake already staring at him. and there they were, heeseung holding half a biscuit and jake having his arms folded, looking again at each other.

heeseung shook his head and switched his attention at the box of biscuits for a few seconds as if trying to find a way out of this awkward situation. "um... blonde suits you..." he said, referring to jake's hair, looking up to him and then back down and continued eating his biscuit. jake put his elbows on the table and crossed his fingers, placing his chin on the 'bridge' he created.

"I wonder if it would suit you as well." he replied nonchalantly. heeseung almost choked on his biscuit but luckily his reaction was covered by niki's reappearance. heeseung just hoped that jake didn't mean that in the way he imagined that comment to be.

heeseung and jake didn't exchange any other word for the rest of the stay. after both niki and heeseung finished their cups of coffee they waited until jake signed the papers and then prepared to leave.

jake closed the door behind the other two while they were heading home. he went to his kitchen, placing everything back and cleaning a little here and there, being in deep thoughts. he sighed loudly and shook his head a few times. "I should stop saying anything that comes to my mind." he said out loud while pouring the rest of his coffee down the sink.
