Never before in Camden's life had she seen such a sky. Growing up in the city she was used to the sky above wearing a thick veil of smoke. Either that or completely blocked by the garnish lights or tall buildings she was used to. She was grateful she had let her friends convince her to go camping with them. The stars in the sky twinkled like small diamonds, the waves gently crashed onto the shore, seemingly dancing in the moonlight. The music in Camden's headphones was soft and sparse. She looked up once more, the stars beckoning her to drift off to sleep. But Camden couldn't just yet. While sometimes, she truly missed the home where she grew up, she wouldn't trade tonight for anything.
She started to think about her friends, the ones who dragged her on this trip, Bosco, Willow, Daya and Angie. She smiled gently as she thought back to the discussion they had about the trip.
"Come on Camden! It'll be fun!" Bosco cheered, smiling widely. Camden couldn't help but feel a twinge of excitement deep down as she looked At Bosco.
"Yeah! We can have s'mores, tell stories and we can sing the campfire song song!" Willow bargained. Camden immediately perked up at the mention of the SpongeBob classic.
"And we can do some stargazing!" Daya pointed out. Camden smiled, getting more and more excited by the second. But then, Angie said something that made Camden agree instantly.
"And I'll let you share a tent with me," Angie offered with a grin. Camden immediately beamed upon hearing the offer and nodded excitedly. The others smiled, knowing that Camden was a sucker for spending precious time with Angie.
"Yes! Let's do it!" Camden cheered, she was already getting excited for this trip. Any trip was always so much more fun when you got to do it with the people that you love. She loves her friends and she knows that her friends love her too.
Camden smiled as she thought about the discussion. She looked up, smiling at the gorgeous sky that she just couldn't look away from. Her curly ginger hair fluttered with the gentle sea breeze swiftly combing through it.
The mischievous twinkle in Bosco's eyes seemingly mirrored by the stars. Camden always loved that Bosco is always up for an adventure. Bosco is always looking for excitement of any kind, no matter what she had to do for it.
She was a little misguided at times, but she never meant any harm. The stars glimmering in the sky reflected that, as they seemingly danced around and illuminating the sky and the water below. She looked at the water, the waves crashing against the shore ever so gently.
Next, her mind drifted to Willow. Camden smiled as she heard Willow's soft voice mimicked by the gentle sound of the waves. Willow is always very gentle and comforting. You could always talk to Willow when you needed someone calming.
Willow was soft. With her friends, with her things, and with the world. She had a unique perspective on life that Camden admired, and sometimes envied. Willow could always look on the bright side, and that was something that even Camden struggled to do sometimes. But Willow seemed to do so effortlessly.
Next, she thought about Daya. She giggled as she felt Daya's comforting touch resembled by the warm sand. Daya seemed scary and tough on the outside, but on the inside, she is warm, comforting, and cares for others more than you could ever know.
Daya was warm and comforting. Once you got past her tough exterior, you would find one of the most sweetest and compassionate people you could ever want to meet. It hurt Camden's heart that the fans were always so mean to Daya. She didn't deserve that at all.
Finally, her mind drifted to Angie. Camden is definitely closest with Angie. Angie looks after Camden, always keeping her safe and giving her reassurance. She and Camden are inseparable. And looking up at the crescent shaped moon, Camden couldn't help but see Angie's lopsided smile.
She's always willing to listen and make people feel better. She had an air about her that made even the tensest of people feel more comfortable. That's why during the competition, Camden had grown so close with Angie. She just had that effect on her, and Camden certainly didn't mind.
Camden checked the time on her phone, knowing it was time to head back. But before she did, she grabbed a conch shell that was laying just where the waves met the shore. Surely her friends would appreciate a memento from their trip.
"Camden! There you are! Come on! We were just about to get started on the s'mores!" Bosco called, beckoning Camden over. Camden beamed, running towards them. Willow grabbed her ukulele and began to play the opening chords of the campfire song song.
The sky tonight is beautiful on its own, but it's only made more stunning because Camden gets to enjoy it surrounded by the people she loves. And they love Camden too.
