"Rose will you sit still!" I heard some Moroi woman complain for the thousandth time.
She was some royal, she did Lissa's hair for all of her special events as queen. And she had done Lissa's for her wedding day.
Now it was my turn apparently.
"Sorry M'am, just nervous. This is kind of a big day." I said rudely. Talking back was always a comfort for me. Whether I was a teenager or not.
She scoffed before I felt her hands twisting my hair more, amplifying the normal curls. We were leaving it half down. A simple braided bun in the back with the rest waving and curling, coming out from underneath the bun.
My makeup was not subtle. I didn't do subtle makeup, but I never over did it either.
Dark brown eye shadow, slight eyeliner, blush that brought out my natural skin tones.
My skin was not exactly tan (that happened when you lived with Moroi who were nocturnal) but it was a nice silk, almost rose color, as ironic as that sounds.
I wasn't in my dress yet, which was good because my armpits were drenched in sweat. I know gross.
Usually I was sweaty from training, not from silly things like wedding jitters.
Lissa walked in. She looked like she always did. Regal, confident, sure. The way I usually imagined myself minus the regal part.
But not today, when, in my eyes, it mattered most.
Lissa had her fair hair in a twist on top of her head. Her green eyes glittered like jewels, her cheeks a soft glowing red, and she was wearing a light violet purple dress that was perfect. She was one of my bridesmaids, along with Sydney and Sonya Karp.
I had let them argue over the colors they would wear for the big day, they'd chosen this purpley color which was fine with me. It looked great on all of them.
The wedding itself though was based on guardian colors, black and white. Simple. Perfect for me. Not that I didn't like a show, but I was nervous enough as it was.
"Rose, are you ready for the dress?" She asked me after the hairdresser moved aside, finished with her work.
"I don't know Liss. This is huge. This week... Was way too fast. Times sped up a lot, or at least it seems that way."
"Well if you want to think of it that way, that means you can come back sooner. The baby will be here before you know it, the baby will be healthy you'll be fine and sometime in the next 9 months we'll figure out what we're going to do." She reassured me, patting my back.
She stood up, going to the closet and unzipping my dress.
I'm not going to go into specifics about it. It was a creamy ivory color, white wasn't my color. It was simple and elegant, it would catch eyes. It was my dress, made for me.
I slipped into it, and Liss helped me keep my hair from getting messed up. Afterwards she moved me to the mirror.
I gasped. I hadn't been expecting this.
She smiled from behind me in the mirror.
"Remember Rose, how much you use to joke with the other dhampirs, hell and the Moroi, boys at The Academy about how you were so smoking hot?" She asked giggling.
"I am smoking hot." I said back, but it didn't come out as smooth as I had wanted. It was a whisper.
Damn, I was nervous.
I walked over to the curtain of the tent type building we were in and glanced outside.
The priest was there, Dimitri wasn't yet. I spotted Christian sitting in the front row in black, it matched his dark hair and blue eyes.
He was holding Prim who was wearing a white lacy onesy type thing. Her eyes were open, the same blue as his.
Sydney and Adrian were there as well, Zoey smooshed inbetween them.
We had talked about them staging an argument or something about Sydney wanted to leave court, so people wouldn't wonder about them, but decided someone might leak it to the alchemists.
Five years or not, they were persistent and they could still be hunting Sydney.
"Lissa," I said turning. "Thank you. It's so beautiful. And on such short notice, and this is. This is insane." I said.
She smiled. "It's good practice then, because being a parent seems insane. I love Prim so much, but she still doesn't seem real. That's one of the reasons I'm willing to let you go for this short period of time Rose, so you can get your own Prim and keep her safe."
We hugged and I wanted to cry, but knew I shouldn't because of my makeup.
She went to get in her spot and I sat, waiting for Abe to come and get me and walk me down the aisle.
This was going to be a wedding that went down in history. But that was good, we wanted people focusing on the bizarre wedding.
Most dhampir couples had small weddings, if they even got married. They never had big flashy events. And most of the time Moroi were seldom invited.
Also, most of the time the brides dhampir parent might not even show up.
I had my infamous dhampir mother, and my scary Moroi father.
I was having my wedding at the court. A huge wedding, it was being broadcasted.
It still wasn't as big as Lissa's wedding but people wanted in on mine too. Me and Dimitri were probably the most famous dhampirs in the world at the moment, plus this is the first time anyone's been able to really get a glance of Prim. The royal baby.
Abe poked his head in. "You ready, Hathaway?"
"Sure thing, old man." I replied, standing up shakily.
"I always knew that Belikov was trouble." Abe said, giving me one of his infamous looks that was meant to scare people. Not me though.
"Yeah, whatever, let's get moving old man. You're so old it'll probably take us the whole time to get down the aisle." I said and he chuckled, taking my arm and leading me outside.
Walking down the aisle was a dream. Everyone was staring at me, a few smiling. Like I said earlier, this wasn't a normal dhampir wedding. This was completely new.
I got down the aisle to Dimitri, and he looked glorious. Abe took my hand, and placed it in Dimitris. He took his spot next to my mother.
The pastor said his parts, I heard Dimitri say I do. Then I got shaky. This was it. This was the beginning of our lives together.
My ears were ringing.
Then I heard my name, and my brain went blank.
"Yeah." I said then blanched. "Yeah, I mean I do."
Oh my god. I didn't.
It was silent for one second, then Christian burst out laughing.
I was frozen.
