Vampire Academy: Spirited Offspring

Strigoi

It took the Strigoi exactly two seconds before they jumped forward and moved into action. They were both staring at me.

My dhampir hearing could pick up Sydney's frantic voice from where the phone lay on the floor where I dropped it.

Olena somehow had gotten a stake and was slashing out at one of the Strigoi, Yeva had Artur and was trying to get him upstairs, and the other one was coming for me.

I grabbed a knife, one of the huge steak ones, from the kitchen drawer just in time.

I stabbed the Strigoi through the heart, and then scrambled the the cabinet where the stakes were kept.

The knife wouldn't keep him down for long, and I was already out of breath. The whole conspiracy that you glowed while you were pregnant was bullshit.

I spiraled around right as the Strigoi was about to grab for me. I slashed at his arm with the stake and he hissed in pain.

I saw Olena faintly from the corner of my eye, and was thankful that she seemed to be doing ok for now at least.

I, however, was not doing ok for once.

The strigois teeth had somehow managed to scrape against my arm and my arm was burning.

I was also finding it hard to find footing and balance when I was so big, and could barely see my feet.

I let out a menacing scream, as menacing as I could, and a slight look of fear did cross the Strigoi.

I might be a very pregnant short girl, but I was Rose Hathaway. I had a reputation, even among Strigoi.

He lunged again and I scraped the stake against his cheek as he tried to get his teeth near me, and he shrieked in protest lashing out, and he managed to hit me with his arm.

I was down. The floor got closer and I grit my teeth as I hit the hard floor, butt first luckily.

The Strigoi was going to finish me off though.

He was too fast, and I wasn't able to jump up when I was pregnant like this.

Or at least I thought he was going to finish me off.

But then Yeva showed up.

She had a stake of her own, and even though her arm was shaky she struck out at the Strigoi.

He simply looked annoyed as he swatted her out of the way, she hit the floor.

She landed on the knife I had dropped earlier, and suddenly there was blood pouring out from her side.

I heard a gargled screech, but not from her. It was from the Strigoi Olena was fighting. Or had been fighting. He was dead now.

The Strigoi that had been fighting us ran over to deal with Olena, he must've figured we were too injured to get up.

I crawled over to Yeva.

"Roza," she rasped, using my russian nickname.

"Yes, Yeva?" I asked, trying to calculate how we could all get out of this mess. Yeva included.

"Keep Dimka in line. He's got a good heart, but remind him that his family needs him. He doesn't always have to be saving the world. And name the baby after me." She added.

"You're not dying." I told her, but she just smiled and slowly closed her eyes.

"I'm not naming the baby after you either." I said, surprised someone could make a demand like that as they died.

"I'm not named my baby after you!" I said louder, but I could feel the tears pouring down my cheeks.

I sniffled, but then realized I had to go help Olena. I could still hear the scuffle happening just a few feet away.

"I'll name the baby after you." I whispered, reaching out to touch her once more.

After patting her arm, I struggled up off the floor...

...and turned around just in time to see the Strigoi feeding Olena his blood.

"No!" I screamed, lunging forward.

I knew I was too late... He'd turned her strigoi, when she would wake up she'd open her eyes and they'd be red.

I didn't have much time to think about though, because something very hard hit my head and the world went black.

It seemed to be doing that a lot lately.

( A/N: Sorry for this short chapter but I love ending the chapters with cliff hangers because I'm evil. So, I'm kind of having writers block. Not too badly, like I know where I want the story to end up but not how I want it to get there. Comment plot ideas if you have any!)
