Flames

Fire, There was fire everywhere. To the left, fire... to the right, fire..

The smoke filled my lungs as I tried to splutter out the air and breathe fresh air back in. How did it come to this, so quickly. I thought I had more time...

I thought I had more time with them...

Laylah, passed.

Jayden, Shot.

Sky, passed out from smoke, most likely dead.

And Aaron, I don't even know what happened to him, he just disappeared one day and we never saw him again..

That day was devastating to me, more than the others. They knew how I felt... He knew how I felt, and he just left us... To think that wasn't too long ago but before today, and that's all that matters... The fact he's gone, and I don't think He's ever coming back.

How I wish that someone would just run through the flames, tell me everything's alright and that everyone is going to be fine... alive...

Now I think about it... what caused the ferocious flames that surround me as we speak...

I was so lost in thought I didn't notice the tears forming in my eyes, stinging them more than the smoke.

I looked around once more, reminiscing about what used to be the bright living room where we would laugh, not care about the worries of the world. I miss those times... I miss him... still... Even after he left I still cannot get over the feelings I swore to bury, but like a zombie crawling out of a grave, no matter how deep you dig the hole and bury it... it will slowly creep its way back up to the surface.

I thought that if I were to run through the flames, would I make it to the other side of them..? To the outside, to hopefully hear blaring sirens coming from fire trucks as they closed in on the horizon slowly coming closer and closer to the flames and fire alarms that I had gotten too used to, to the point where I could easily tune it out.

I went to take a step but that was a very quick mistake. My knees buckled out from underneath me as my eyes closed in on the floor bracing for impact. Unlike the stories I've read where the girl never hits the floor, I body slammed onto the floor.

In a state of panic my eyes stared directly into the flames as they crept closer over the wooden floorboards.

Sight began to fuzz out. My surroundings turned to black. Instead of a state of panic like I previously was in, I was surprisingly calm... I just thought...

What if things didn't turn out the way they did....?

What if we could change how things played out, the cards that were dealt to us...
