Chapter 8
Pines flew out of the trees as the wind blew. Birds were chirping, owls going to sleep. It was 5:30 AM. Rebecca's alarm sounded, screeching through the room. Her sister groaned at the horrid noise. Desert rain frogs. Not something you want to wake up to everyday. Rebecca went back to sleep for fifteen minutes. Another desert rain frog alarm.
Eliza turned it off and went to Instagram. She spent about twenty minutes on her phone and then decided to get ready. Her outfit was simple. Grey shirt, black jeans, her favorite black jacket, and combat boots.
She told herself that she should get her lunch ready first. A peach fruit cup. Eliza didn't even think of eating breakfast. In fact, she never does. After getting her lunch ready, she went upstairs to do the rest of her routine.
It was now 7:04 AM and Eliza and her sister were in the car, with their dad driving them to school. It would be cool to get jet pack backpacks and just fly to school. Faster, better for the planet. When they got to school, it was 7:08 AM. Still a lot of time before their friend got here. So, Eliza put her backpack in her locker and went to the library. She wanted to find a book on Virus. As she went into the room, her hands trembled. Who knew if Virus took over?
The librarian continued to do her job, not even looking at Eliza. The library had almost anything. The Hunger Games to History books. All genres. Didn't matter, the library had it. Eliza jumped. The door shut loudly. She looked back and found Blake. "W-what are you doing here Blake?" she stuttered.
"Your sister said that you would be in here. What are looking for?" he replied, his voice flowing clearly. Eliza said that she was searching for a book on Virus. They looked for it together. Turns out, it was in the rated M section. "Found it Eliza!" Blake yelled. Eliza ran over to him and dusted off the book. Their hands met at the cover, so they both opened it. Purple shards spilled out. "I think it only wants you."
She took a deep breath. Here I go. Eliza took the book and opened its ancient pages. The writing was in cursive, but a fancier looking cursive. The one you find in ancient letters done with a quill and ink. It was beautiful.
"Many legends say that a futuristic ship will come flying out of the sky. The Floodgate, they call it. Their leader is not known. All we know is that they'll be the death of everyone. The purple scales soon turn into... into unbreakable covers. You won't be able to escape. I can hear them coming. If this ever gets published, go to the Floodgate. All your answers will be there. Rumor has it, they wrote journals. They're busting through the door. Goodbye world."
Her hands were trembling. Blake walked up to her and closed the book. He put it in his backpack. "So, what did you-" Blake got cut off by Eliza rushing into a hug. The young boy put his arms around her and put his forehead on hers. Eliza let go and held Blake's hand. They walked out of the library. RING!!!
First period. The both of them headed to the area they had to be in. They said their goodbyes and went into the doors. Eliza headed towards Sasha and Amelia. Amelia looked worried.
"What happened Eliza?" she asked. Eliza poured her problems out at lightning speed. Amelia was amazed at her story. "Really?" Her expression went from worried to surprised. Sasha had her mouth hanging open. Probably from the rapid speed of Eliza's explaining.
Garret walked up to Eliza with David and Amber. "So what you're telling them is that you're the leader of this mess? Ha! Then we should just kill you, right?" Garret joked. Eliza's eyes flashed red. A purple-scaled helmet formed on her head, and within one measly second, she formed a huge bump on his forehead.
"Oh so you're playing this way, eh?" Amber growled.
"Yep. And you aren't going to stop me, little human," Eliza snapped. As she was getting ready to harm Amber, Amelia grabbed her arm. "Why are you stopping me? I'm protecting my.. so called species!" she cried.
"Don't listen to this Virus Alpha. He's just trying to make you act this way. He wants you to flip out so that he can take over. Virus is a total... a total jerk!" Amelia snapped back. She has a point, Eliza thought. The helmet disappeared and she dropped to her hands and knees.
"I never wanted this. I can't control this. Save me from this, make it end. I feel like a monster." Amber tried to help her. "GET AWAY FROM ME, YOU MONSTER!" The purple shards shot out of the ground, making a circular barrier around Eliza. She was shaking now. David broke a shard. "Stop! That only makes it angrier!"
David dropped the shard and backed away. Virus Alpha appeared behind him. "Guess who?" it said. The small boy jumped. He looked back and saw it. It had long legs, a pretty scrawny body, and rotten flesh colored skin. "Missed me Eliza?"
Eliza got up and growled. She wiped away the tears and stood strong. Her body shape told Virus that he should just back away before she stabbed a face. Preferably his. He did this to her. She needed revenge. Murder. Murder of a futuristic monster.
The girl wasn't going to let Virus take over. Its purple coverings won't devour the beautiful grass, sand, ocean, and streets. Flourishing towns will be built. No doubts about it. Thoughts ran through her mind as a green electricity sword formed in her hand. Virus pulled out his Battle Rifle.
It's too unreal to the others. They all tried to wake up, but it wasn't a dream. Eliza was battling face to face with Virus Alpha. By now, everyone was watching Eliza. The wind blew her hair dramatically. It was silent. Before anyone struck, Blake ran up to them.
"Wait! Don't hurt her. I won't let you! I love her too much to let her go to the clouds above by you! She has to live a full life. Stop torturing her!" Blake cried. Virus raised his eyebrows.
Virus Alpha huffed. "Show me that you really love her, and I'll let you pesky humans go."
Blake grabbed Eliza and kissed her. Time froze. It was like paradise.
Don't let go.
