Chapter 2: Revenge

My nerves were basically seeping out of my pores. I watched Hunters features carefully as he examined my resume. From time to time he would scrunch his face in deep thought, then his full lips would slim into a straight line as his mind  reeled into a debate. His expression un-readable, I couldn't decide weather he was disgusted by my resume or slightly impressed.

His poker face was perfected. I on the other hand am an open book in epic proportions. I could feel the thick  skin between my eyebrows crunch together as my left leg was fidgeting as if I was having a disgruntled leg seizure.

Suddenly he put my folder down on his wide amber brown desk  that was probably worth more than 5 months of my rent combined.

His face turned hard as he looked deeply onto my face, scrutinizing  me.

I was silent, my own thoughts reeling out of control, he's so going to turn me down.

At this point I was inner turmoil  as his eyes bore into my own. Either he was testing me to see if I would break the silence first or he wanted to make me wait.

Gaining confidence  I smoothed my facial features and pointed one of my  eyebrows up signaling that I wasn't going to cave.

He tangled his fingers together and rested his palm at the top of his stomach as he laid back on his leather swivel chair.

" Well Miss Simins your resume was quite interesting." No sign of playfulness was hinted in his voice.

He continued, " Your recommendations were very vast as well, high school and college professors, Managers, parents of children you baby sat for, and even a strongly worded letter from your mother." he snickered.

I bolted upwards," WHAT! She didn't, ugh she promised she wouldn't." I reached for my file but he quickly swatted my hands away.

I pulled away, utter surprise washing over me. What a rude prick.

" Oh but she did Miss Simins." The sexiest smirk formed on his lips as he skimmed through the letter one more time to point at her signature. I have to admit I was taken aback from how stunning his face was but the humor behind his voice made my blood boil.

I looked at where his finger were hovering over and sure enough there stood the printed and unquestionable delicate signature of my mothers.

I stood there, like a frozen statue. My gaze bore onto the signature. I glared at the piece of paper so strongly that if I stared any longer I would burn a hole through the paper.

I sat back down, avoiding his gaze and crossing my hands over my chest, my serious demeanor returning .

" So, will this possibly hurt my chances at getting the job?"my voice was dripped with as much venom i could muster.

His amused features brightened up a notch, if it were even possible. " No, not really." He put the letter down and   All of a sudden his teasing persona turned into a cold, humorless one. A shiver ran down my spine making my body shiver as it proceeded to my lower back and back up again.

" But  that little incident on the elevator might." Complete and utter bewilderment took a hold of me as the words vibrated into my ears and bounced off of every corner of the office.

A devilish grin formed on his lips as he propped himself closer to me, his muscular torso hunching over the desk. " Did you actually forget about that Miss  Simins, I guess I made you feel a little too comfortable."

If you thought I was venomous and cruel towards him, you would assume  I was a tree hugging hippie who walked around  in floral flare jeans compared to how his voice was directed towards me. His deep green eyes pierced through my bravado and ripped it to shreds.

" No but I was praying to mother Theresa you  would." I replied sheepishly, his narrowing to slits.

" Miss Simins, I hope you know the staff of this company take their job very seriously." He stopped, taking his time to choose his next words.

" I don't think yo—"

" Actually save me the blow Mr. Henderson I'll see my way out." I walked towards the door and wrapped my hands around the cold handle. I stood there, frozen. My hands unable to twist the small nob that stopped me from walking away with as much dignity as I could.

But truth be told I didn't want to leave but I knew I had to. And if I had to leave I was sure as hell going to put my two cents in first.

I turned around my hair cutting trough air like a bullet. I watched his uninterested face molded into one of incredulity. I starred him down as I made my way to the edge of his desk. I set my hands down on it as I bent my upper body down to have him in eye level.

" Actually what would you know about me? You think that because I'm humerus I cant manage my work? Do you think because I don't have an Armani suit I don't have class? Or do you think that because I'm not a work obsessed pompous ass that my work ethics aren't worthy of your precious company? Well let me tell you something Hunter Henderson you don't know the first thing about me and when I walk out that door." I pointed to the exit.

"You'll be making the biggest mistake of your life because one day i'll be on top. I swear on it." I muttered the last words  as if  I couldn't believe them myself.

I whipped around not bothering to see his expression and stormed out of H.I. I don't know what came over me but it felt..... good. Everything I said in there, every word that belted out of my throat I would keep until that fateful day where we meet eye to eye and that quirky smirk of his drops into a scowl.

I drove away the H.I building fading away in the background. I opened my apartment and nothing was out of place, nothing was new and nothing felt right. 5 years ago I wanted to make it on my own, I left my parents home, my parents, my family and friends behind. My legacy...

In the beginning i was filled purpose and excitement. I mean come on, I was an 18 year old finally free from mommy and daddy. The world was my ouster. I rented this apartment out made my own money and it felt nice.

But then the bills poured in, I struggled to make ends meet and I found myself juggling 2 jobs, college, rent and a pile of bills. Before I didn't have to worry about anything, everything  was paid for, my life was leisurely.

But like everyone else I grew up and life slapped me in the face. I was never money obsessed and even with my dads bank account behind to support me I never payed much attention to it because I never bought anything that wasn't necessary. But being on my own, I was more money hungry than I've ever been in my entire 23 years of existence.

Which is why I wasn't surprised when I picked up my phone and called my  father.

" Hello." a gruff voice answered.

" Hey dad, its me Shay." My voice was low, my dad had a way of taking all confidence out of a person.

" Oh, hello Shandra, it's been quite some time before last I've heard of you, is everything okay darling."

Oh wow he was actually being fatherly.

"Everything is fine dad, but I wanna take you up on that offer you made me 5 years ago. I want to continue our legacy."

There was complete and utter silence at the other end of the line, I could of sworn I could hear the wind blowing from outside.

" Really. May I ask what brought forth this turn of events?"

" Lets just say I finally understand what you meant by divide and conquer." Silence again.

" Splendid. I'll get the driver to pick you up first thing tomorrow." His voice cut through the eerie silence.

A slow grin crawled around my mouth, and like that my quest to take revenge on one of the wealthiest men of this decade began, and boy will it be sweet.
