Eve Brooks-Potter never felt like she had a break since her children turned 11. Each week, they were up to something that put them in danger or threatened everyone else. For once, she heard nothing bad for two weeks. There wasn't much time left before the summer and Eve was positive they would be fine.
That's what James had said...James was wrong.
Eve knew something wasn't right with her daughter when she returned to Hogwarts. Eve did her best, making sure to OWL weekly, despite the small replies back, and told Harry to check up on his sister. Harry adored Adeline but he'd expressed to his mum how hard it had been trying to find her, finding she was spending all her time in Ravenclaw tower.
The rest of the year had been making Eve a nervous wreck and she hated it.
When Eve had Professor McGonagall showed up in front of her door with an incredibly sad look, Eve started shaking with worry. James immediately grabbed their wands and the Professor suggested they both join them in Dumbledore's office. Raina, Remus and Sirius had been there during this as well, having been waiting for Kala to finish work.
"What is it now?" James questioned. "This is beginning to feel like last year and Harry—"
"James, Adeline had been taken to the Chamber of Secrets," McGonagall replied in a shaky voice. "She's been missing from lessons all day."
"Adeline?" James gaped. "You're telling me that my daughter is— is —"
James collapsed into the chair by the fire as Eve started to cry. Raina, Sirius and Remus did their best to comfort the two but nothing seemed to be working. How could it?
There was a small noise and the door to the office opened.
"Adeline!" Eve cried.
James and Eve lept to their feet, wrapping their arms around their daughter. Fawkes, Dumbledore's Phoenix, swapped past Harry, Ron and Callisto...who appeared to have saved Adeline. Dumbledore was beaming, whilst McGonagall looked utterly shocked.
"Thank Merline," Even held Adeline close. "Oh, Addy, love. Harry, how did you find her?"
"I think we'd all like to know that." Professor McGonagall said weakly.
