Chapter 28. Traditions

Trixie couldn't slept before checking the to do list for tomorrow one more time. She sang Ella to sleep and had a honest talk with her best friend and her mother in law. Kim mocked her to keep her focus and calm. She knew Trixie was anxious and nervous. Irina knew that Trixie was thinking about her mother and was a little bit broken.

"My dearest, may I have a moment with you?" Irina said getting closer to Trixie who was sitting in the kitchen drinking a cup of tea.
"Of course...do you want some tea?"
"Sure, I just wanted to share something with you" She said sitting on a stool and accepting the warm cup.
"I would love that, please"
"Well honey, it is a story of my family...your family" Trixie smiled and took Irina's hand. She was such a beautiful and elegant woman, her sweet kind eyes and smile were almost identical to Katya's. "My mother inherited just a few things to me in life, before I came here with Dimitri. Her engagement ring that I gave to my son, her pearl necklace that I gave to my youngest daughter on her wedding day and a sliver pin that in our tradition we use to protect babies from the evil eye. That one I gave it to Ella and she stills have it under her crib. To Katya, tomorrow, I'm going to give her this..."
Irina showed Trixie a little black velvet box with a brooch. It was a golden cross with rubies.
"It's so beautiful..."
"I carried just a few things with me, but all of these were my family treasures. I took care of them even in times when money was scarce. I wanted my children to have something meaningful to remind them that family is the beginning and the end."
"You are all so amazing"
"There is one more thing, it's by far the most unique of all. My great great grandfather was a miner, he didn't have much. But he felt the wealthiest man in the world when he found the love of his life. He was fifteen years old when he met my great great grandmother. One difficult and scary night at the mine, he found a rare stone. It is so strange to find one of those that is considered a sign of pure luck and magic. And specially that night, for him it was. He was trapped in the mine when he saw a bright light and then the subtle sparkle of the stone. The possibilities of getting out of there were minimal, but he was rescued moments later. He was sure that it was his guardian angel. People would have pay a good amount of money for the tiny gem, but he kept it and made of it a gorgeous simple necklace. He asked his love to marry him with it. My great great grandmother wore it from the day of her wedding to her last day on earth."
"Oh, that's such a wonderful story. A true fairytale..."
"It's a story of love. I didn't know what to do with it, until I saw you and Katya. That day when you came to see Ella after Katya's birthday."
"Oh! When we stopped being so naive...You knew! You knew that something was different that day..right?"
"I saw you came back for your family...that's why I want you to have this..." Irina gave her a white small box with a little pendant made with a very rare stone called alexandrite, which has a color changing abilities under different lights.
"Oh god! I can't...I...this is too much"
"It's just right for you. The stone reminds me of my daughter and you. It's a beautiful conjunction of colors that are far from logic but pure magic" Trixie started crying looking at the delicate necklace. Irina took it out of the box and put it on her. "Perfect!"
"I...Irina, this is one of the most valuable moments of my life. I would wear it from now on with all the love and honor you just made me feel. Thank you so, so , so much"
"I know your are going to take good care of it just like you care after my daughter and grandchild"

    The day was finally there, it was a beautiful November morning and everything was going on as planned. Kim did the makeup for Trixie and Irina. Jason, Katya's friend, made the hair for all of them including Ella who was specially crazy that morning. The only thing Trixie was a little bit worried about was the dresses. It was almost noon and she didn't know anything about them. At 12:10 pm Violet knocked at the door of Trixie's room, she entered with Victoria and Brianna behind her. They were already dress on their rose gold bridesmaid dresses, looking stunning and carrying each one a black big package.
