"Name?"
"Suga," the blond is fiddling with his phone disinterestedly, and he's gone before Taehyung can ask for the spelling. He pouts, staring at the cup and sharpie in his hand.
Sugar? Shuger? Shuga? Suga?
He shakes his head, he'd rather embarrass himself in a controlled manner than accidentally spell a customer's name wrong, and the customer is cute. He scribbles down the first thing that comes to mind, 'Bae'. Jimin, his coworker, snorts from over his shoulder and Taehyung shoots him a grin.
When Taehyung calls the customer, he makes sure to make a scene of it, "Order for the bae with blond hair in the cute puffy black jacket!"
The stranger glances around the cafe, pausing when he realizes no one else fits the description. He stares at Taehyung in shock, only to get a sweet smile in return. He glares.
"Bae is the most disgusting pet name you could have chosen," is all he says as he comes to grab his coffee. Taehyung takes it as a win because he wasn't told off for using a pet name at all.
"That could have gone admittedly worse," Jimin laughs, wiping a bit of spilled cream off the counter.
Two days later, the same stranger comes into the cafe, but his hair is silver now. When Taehyung is noticeably staring, the man grimaces, "It was only blond because I was waiting to bleach it lighter for the toner," he mutters, "I'll take a large of the sweetest coffee you have with as much espresso as you can legally give me."
Taehyung makes a wounded hiss, "Long day ahead?" He asks, punching in the order.
"The longest," he groans, "Please don't put bae on my cup again."
"How do you feel about cutie?" Taehyung winks. The customer gives him an unamused look, "Alright, alright, I'll think of something else. Next!"
Taehyung does think of something else, calling out in a sweet voice, "Order for the most breathtaking man I've ever seen."
The silver haired man is glowering as he walks over, though with the pink tint to his cheeks and ears ruin his scary expression, he takes the coffee roughly, "That," he clears his throat when the first word comes out strained, "was overkill."
Taehyung just grins, stifling a laugh when the man takes a sip of the coffee and his face twists in disgust, "Don't get sick, beautiful-nim," he waves the stranger out the door.
It goes on like this, silly pet names and short conversations, for more than three weeks. One day, late at night this time, just before closing, he's back again, looking very tired, "A black coffee."
Taehyung looks at him worriedly, "Ah, it's late though."
The man stares at him with an incredulous look, "So?"
"So you shouldn't drink coffee right before bed, you won't sleep."
"I think that's the point, Taehyungie," Namjoon smiles apologetically to the customer, "I'm sorry, we'll get you the black coffee. What's your name?"
The silver haired man suddenly looks a little lost and almost... disappointed, "Suga."
Namjoon asks for the spelling and writes it down on the cup, and Taehyung feels like he's watching from behind a glass screen. 'Suga' barely throws him a small smile before he leaves with his coffee, and Taehyung is mortified at himself for asking too many questions.
He's more scared when the man doesn't show up for nearly two weeks.
"Ah, don't pout, Taehyungie, he might just come during Hoseok hyung and Seokjin hyungs shifts," Jimin pats his back, and Taehyung just shrugs, "Or maybe he was just busy."
