Hannah and Justin were now boyfriend and girlfriend. Justin had decided on taking Hannah on their first date. They were going to the zoo. Hannah loved animals and he liked them too so he thought it would be a good first date.

So Justin was finally ready for their date. "Come on Hannah you ready to go?" Justin asked.

"I sure am," Hannah said.

They went out and Hannah saw they were at the zoo.

"The zoo I love animals," Hannah said.

"I know," Justin said. They went inside.

Justin got a map of all the different animals that were in the zoo. "So let's look at the map and start looking," Justin said.

"Yes let's start," Hannah said.

"Look at that how amazing is that," Hannah said pointing at the bear.

"Yes I see it," Justin said.

They saw other things too. Before Justin knew he was reaching out his hand and Hannah was reaching out hers and the next thing he knew they were holding hands.

"How cute look those otters are holding hands too," Justin said.

"Yes they are," Hannah said. "Otters do it to stay together, to make sure they don't drift away from their family and friends." she said.

"How wonderful is that," Justin said.  They saw many animals were there at the zoo.

"There are many animals here," Hannah said.

They heard laughing. "What is that?" Justin asked.

"If I am not mistaken that is kookaburra," Hannah said. They came up and saw the bird. "That is kookaburra," she said.

"I see," Justin said.

The bird gave it's laughing call.

Justin sighed and was having a great time with Hannah. He had pictures taken with her. "Look at that lion keeping watch over the lionesses and cubs, ever watching just like you," Hannah said to Justin.

Then they saw how sweet a penguin was being. "That penguin is a sweet heart just like you," Justin said.

"Oh you are so sweet," Hannah said.

They went into the bug house. "Quite a few bugs in here," Justin said. "Look at that one it looks like a stick," he said.

"Well it is a stick insect," Hannah said. "Here was have an orchid mantis." she said pointing.

"It sure is lovely," Justin said.

"Don't let it's pretty looks fool you it is actually a predator who eats other bugs," Hannah said.

"How can that be?" Justin asked.

"Well you girlfriend is right, it is camouflage to help it hide from it's prey, many predators have camouflage so their prey won't see them so they can strike and get an easy meal, while camouflage keeps prey from becoming food." the zookeeper said.

"I see," Justin said. "Hannah does know more about animals than me," he said.

"Well you know more about history than I do," Hannah said.

"So you two enjoying your visit?" the zookeeper asked.

"Yes it is our first date," Justin said.

"Ugh spider," Hannah said looking at the funnel web on exhibit.

"Something wrong?" Justin asked.

"I am just a little afraid of spiders," Hannah said.

"I thought you love animals?" Justin asked.

"I do, I am just not a fan of spiders," Hannah said. "They give me the creeps," she said.

"Well that is understandable, many people are afraid of spiders," the zookeeper said. "I can understand why you don't like them," he said.

"Well I am glad he is in there and away from me," Hannah said.

"Well I promise I won't let that spider hurt you," Justin said. "I will make sure you will feel safe," he said.

"You are a sweet heart," Hannah said.

"Well if you want to know more about the animals just ask," the zookeeper said.

"Will do," Hannah said.

They went into the reptile house next. "Look at all these different reptiles, there are even amphibians in here," Justin said.

"Well this place is dedicated to herpetology which is the study of reptiles and amphibians." Hannah said.

"I see," Justin said.

They looked at the exhibits. "Look at all the different kinds of snakes, what does this word mean venomous?" Justin asked.

"It means the snake has at type of poison called venom in glands inside it and it injects it into prey or enemies with it's fangs, some venomous animals do it through fangs others through stingers." Hannah said.

"So it means it is deadly?" Justin asked.

"Don't worry out of the over 2,000 species of snakes only 600 hundred are venomous and two hundred of them are deadly." Hannah said. "Especially this one right here the saw scale viper, it has venom that causes blood problems and tissue damage and it has a bad temper and highly aggressive for a snake it's size, so keepers must be very careful dealing with this snake," she said.

"Okay," Justin said. "What does nonvenomous mean?" he asked.

"It means not poisonous," Hannah said.

"Oh how do these snakes kill their prey?" Justin asked.

"By squeezing it to death," a keeper answered. "They prey will either die from suffocation or die from high blood pressure," he said.

"Wow talk about being a strong snake," Justin said.

"We have quite an assortment of snakes," the zookeeper said. "We have a few other reptiles too," he said.

"Well it is quite impressive," Justin said. "I never seen so many different reptiles in one place and they come from all over the world," he said.

"That is the thing about zoos these animals come from all over and each zoo has it's own unique collection," the zookeeper said. "We work with the animals and take care of them, it isn't easy work but we do it, we make sure the animals are happy and healthy." he said.

Then they saw they were at the end and looking around the gift shop. Hannah got a lion figurine for Justin because he really liked the lion exhibit. Justin got Hannah a plush of an otter because he saw how much she loved seeing the otters.

They showed them to each other.

"Wow thanks Hannah this will look great on my desk," Justin said.

"Thank you Justin this will look great on my bed." Hannah said.

They made it back to the school and went into their rooms. Justin put the lion and his desk and laid on back on his bed and was smiling.

"I see your smiling I suppose your first date with Hannah went well?" Greg asked.

"It went great," Justin said.

"Well I am glad it went well," Greg said.

Hannah was in her room and laid on her bed with the plush otter and was smiling. "I bet the first date with Justin went well," Kara said.

"It went great," Hannah said.

"I can sense high level of happiness and love meaning it did go well," M'gan said.

Hannah and Justin were looking forward to more dates with each other they even told their families how their first date went. They were glad it went well.  Now they were going to relax and hope for more dates in the future.
