Chapter 14 Call of the Wild

The young heroes were training and Wild heart was really pushing herself and kind of lashed out a bit. She scratched open the back of Speedy's pants. "What has gotten into you woke up on the wrong side of the zoo this morning?" Speedy asked covering his backside.

Wild heart shook her head a bit. "Huh?" she said. "I'm sorry I just need to go out for a bit and get some fresh air," she said and then left.

"What has gotten into her lately?" Terry asked in the lounge.

"She's been acting out majorly," Static said. "She has been on edge a lot," he added.

"Yes we practically have to walk on egg shells around her lately," Blue beetle said.

"It is like she is becoming more like animal almost," Aqualad said.

"Something must be going on with her and it can't be good for her," Shining Knight said.

Animal Man came in. "Hey have you kids seen Wild heart I have a lesson planned for her to do with me," Animal man said.

"She went out to get some fresh air after the training session," Supergirl said.

"She clawed the backside of my pants open during the training session like I was one of the training drones," Speedy said.

"That doesn't sound like her," Animal man said.

"We know, it is like something is going on with her and we don't know what," Booster Gold said.

Then Wild heart came in. "Speak of the she-devil," Speedy said and then got elbowed by Katana.

"Hey Wild heart are you ready for a lesson?" Animal Man asked.

"Sure," Wild heart said.

They went out to the forest. They were doing some animal combat training. "Very good Wild heart," Animal Man said.

Then Wild heart went all wild again. "Wild Heart calm down," Animal man said holding her back and was being clawed by her.

Then she slowly came out of it.

"What is going on with you?" Animal asked her.

"To be honest I don't know," Wild heart said. "I mean one moment I am fine and the next moment some wild beast, whether mammal, bird, amphibian, reptile, fish, or invertebrate takes over and I lose control it is like all my common sense goes out the window. It is like I am starting to heed to the call of the wild or something," she said.

"I think that is enough training for now, we better take you back to the academy and get some tests done to see what is going on and then straighten this out," Animal man said.

The others saw them coming in. "Hey you two are back so soon?" Hawkgirl asked.

"It is kind of hard to explain we need J'onn and Batman for this one," Animal man said.

"Did something happen?" Hawkgirl asked.

"It sure did, Wild heart has been having moments of losing control and going all animalistic wild on people and things," Animal Man said. "The students said it happened during their training and it happened when I was helping her train in the woods. She needs some help to figure out what is wrong," he said.

"That does sound like a problem," Hawkgirl said.

Batman took a sample of blood from Wild heart and J'onn was telepathically in her mind. J'onn saw lots of Wild animals in her mind all of them fighting each other and trying to have control and then all of them merging into a wild beast and attacking. "That is quite a lot going on in your head Wild heart, it seems there is a bit of the wild inside you and it is getting pretty strong," J'onn told her.

"I have been able to keep the wild inside me under control for a long time I don't know why I can't now and having times where I can't control it." Wild heart said.

"I might be able to answer that question," Batman said.

"What is it?" Wild heart asked.

"Wild heart's mutation is developing into stronger abilities but there is a chance things could get worse, since she is going through puberty she is growing a lot in mind in body so quickly it is causing her abilities to grow more quickly, which is why the control is getting harder. There is a chance her mutation may become more physical." Batman said. "I think the mutation is developing faster due to the puberty and going ahead of the rest of her body. To be sure of that I need to do more tests and research on it, and then we can figure out what to do," he said.

"Until then Wild heart no more missions or training, you are not to leave the school under any circumstances until we figure this out," Superman said.

"Yes sir," Wild heart said.

Things were getting harder. Wild heart was having more lash outs and having moments of agonizing pain. "I was right it is going faster than her body I need to give her an antidote it will slow the mutation to grow at the same rate as her body. That way everything will be in balance again," Batman said.

Then heard Wild heart cry out in agony and heard wild animal sounds. Wild heart was transforming into a creature that was shocking to see. Then it got loose.

"We better find her before someone else does," Shining Knight said.

"He's right frightened people do dangerous things," Batman said.

They went out to find Wild heart. Then Shining knight heard something and saw Wild heart. "It's okay Wild heart it's me," Shining Knight said. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you," he said.

Then a tree was about to fall on him and Wild heart pulled him out of the way. "You are still in there I see," Shining Knight said. Wild heart rubbed against him. "Come on let's take you back," he said.

He brought her back. "She is still in there," Justin said.

"I got the antidote ready, there is a chance she may have part of this mutation left when she changes back, if there is we have to help her adjust and live with her new look." Batman said and gave her the antidote.

Wild heart started to change back and was back to normal. She was now resting the infirmary. She woke up there. "Are you okay?" Justin asked.

"I am, thanks for the help," Hannah said.

"No problem," her friends said.

"Wild heart you going to be fine now I gave you the antidote I came up with, you are going to be fine," Batman said. "Now your mutation will grow at the same rate as your body and you will be able to control it better," he said.

"That is great thank you," Hannah said.

"The important thing is you are going to be okay," Justin said.

"The thing is that wild beast it came from inside me, I still feel in there and I know it is waiting to claw and break out again," Hannah said.

"Well the fact is that wild beast saved me when I found it, so that beast was still you, and knowing when to cut it loose is important," Justin said. "As is when to reign it," he said.

"Yes you just have to decide when a good time to cut it loose is," Animal man said. "And how to control it,' he said.

"I understand," Hannah said.

Things were going to be fine now and Hannah knew all though she had the wild living inside her and it was growing with her she had friends to help her keep it tame when it is time to be tame.
