Earth has been taken over by extraterrestrial beings. Their invasion was a swift one. Humanity was unable to put up much resistance against them. That isn't to say the aliens were violent in their approach. As a matter of fact, they subdued, not killed those who fought against them.
I don't want to give the wrong impression of them. They didn't choose that method out of some sort of humanitarianism. Rather, they chose it because they see humans as a potentially valuable resource. If you're wondering what these aliens look like, imagine them being similar to greys, with slight differences. For one, they're more tall and muscular than how people usually picture them.
For another, they have varying eye colors. They are a species that does not like to be wasteful. Therefore, whenever they acquire a planet, they make sure to get as much use out of it as possible. Unlike most humans, these greys are careful not to exhaust their resources. They know how to make them last and will figure out the most efficient way to do so.
Now that I've given a brief summary of what the greys are like, I will tell you about their endeavors in getting use out of Earth. After their invasion was a success they proceeded to set up bases in different countries. The leader of the invading greys set up shop in the Whitehouse after having its staff removed. Basically, the same thing happened in other countries.
Once the leaders of the world's governments were removed, lower-ranking greys were sent in to patrol different regions. They were ordered to subdue not kill anyone who tried to attack them. For each of their invasions, there is a period of time where they have to assess the planet they've taken over in order to decide what uses they will get out of it. This includes what organisms happen to be living within its ecosystem. They do have the means to study planets from afar in order to gather information about them.
However, they'll prioritize planets with more valuable resources to them. That means if they do happen across any planets that might be of potential use for them they may not be constantly observing it. This was the case for Earth. Although they had gathered some intel on it, they never saw the need to pay close attention to it. The only reason they felt the need to take over Earth is that as I mentioned, they hate being wasteful.
Plus, it happened to be relatively close to them so they figured that they might well take a closer look at it and see what it has to offer. The greys have simple names since that keeps communication more efficient. The leader of them on Earth is named Sam. His second in command is named Trevor. Sam was sitting at the president's desk as he knocked on the door of the Oval Office.
"Come in."
Trevor entered and frowned at the sight before him. Stacks of papers and files were on the desk as well as in surrounding chairs. Sam had a look to him that conveyed exasperation.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. It's just that this planet may be more difficult to work with than we thought."
"What do you mean?"
"I'll explain soon. First, tell me what else we've found."
Trevor then pulled a rectangular holographic device from his pocket. This was basically the equivalent of a tablet to the greys. As Trevor was informing Sam of their findings, he scrolled through it.
"Well, since we've last observed them, they appeared to have advanced rather quickly in terms of medicine and technology. They also are rather adept in terms of culinary feats."
"I was aware of that last one. These things are to die for."
Sam held up a piece of chewy caramel. Then unwrapped it and popped it into his mouth before offering one to Trevor.
