We headed out to the car and drove to our town's only Walmart. As we drove I decided to go on their website and pre-shop for what I'd need so I would know what to get before we get there. I went to the school section and looked at notebooks. I decided, from what they had in stock, that I would get moon phases, outer space, tacos, and black and white checkered notebooks. And of course, they were all mostly black. Our car pulled into a parking spot and we all got out and went into the store.
We went directly to the school supplies, splitting up. I went straight to the notebooks since I knew what I wanted there. I grabbed the notebooks I needed and headed to the pencils. I grabbed a bag of pencils and some pens. I looked for highlighters, but couldn't find them on the aisle I was on. I turned to go to the next aisle when I bumped into my coworker, Tamisra.
"Hey, watch it!" She says, seeming agitated. I didn't mean to bump into her, but she seemed to take it personally.
"S-sorry!" I stutter.
"Oh, what are you doing here, suck up?" She says rudely, to which I responded that I'm shopping with my family and I'm not looking for any trouble. She shoves me down, causing me to drop my stuff.
"You are always making me look bad, and now you're trying to take him from me too, you stupid f#cking tr#nny b#tch?!?!"She says, kicking me in the stomach. Amongst the pain, I feel confusion.
"W-who's-oof who's he?" I question, trying to keep her talking.
"You'll find out soon enough." She says suspiciously. She brings her foot up to step on my head when I hear a shout.
"Ay, what do we 'ave here, Boss?" A deep, gruff voice says.
"Seems to be a piece of human garbage, Mateo." A higher, croakier voice says. I look up from flinching to see that Tamisra isn't moving. Or something was stopping her, at least. I look past her to see four skeletons, two of them looked like they were part of the Italian mafia, and the other two, who were now walking towards me, and helping me up. The shorter of the two was wearing a comically large sunhat. The taller had a set of killer braces.
"Well, Boss? Should we be good citizens and t a k e o u t t h e t r a s h ?" I felt chills go down my spine as the shorter mafia-like skeleton spoke. Man, I would hate to be in Tamisra's shoes right now. I look up at the skeletons helping me, and the shorter spoke.
"You alright kid? You got pretty banged up there. The name's Mars, by the way. Mars the skeleton," He said, his one red eye giving me a once-over. "And this one here is my bro, Jupiter."
"Oh of course he's not alright, brother! He was just assaulted! Here, eat this. It has healing magic." He handed me a piece of monster candy, which I popped in my mouth. It tasted amazing! I started feeling better almost immediately. I happened to look back and saw the two other skeletons, as well as Tamisra, were gone.
"Oh wow! Thanks so much! And, by the way, where did-" I started, only to be interrupted.
"Alright, the rotten dame is taken care of." A deep, rough voice spoke. I jumped.
"Uh, never mind," I say quickly. I start to leave, but a chest blocks my way.
"Forgetting something?" Came that same voice from in front of me. I stumbled over my words, trying to come up with something that didn't seem like I was running away, because that would be rude.
"Uh, sorry, I just didn't want to take up any more of your time," I say.
"Hey, don't worry about it," He said. "In fact," He then took out a card with a pair of names and numbers on it."Don't hesitate to call us if you're ever in that kind of situation again."
"Thank you." I said. I bid them goodbye and headed back to my family. We drove home. Before going to bed, I saved Mateo and his brother Enzo's phone numbers into my contacts.
