She was the only person who made me feel more human.
7/11 was busy as I make my way through them. I'm looking for something to drink before heading home.
I was passed by a group of loud giggling girls. This place is much louder than I had expected. It's really helpful to have something that blocks some of it out. I'm glad I have headphones on.Kumuha ako ng isa'ng canned Coke at isa ring Gatorade saka tinungo ang counter. I looked at my phone while awaiting the next person in line.
"Sandali lang naman, Ate! Pwede'ng kumain muna ako?" a booming voice yelled next to me.
I was briefly sidetracked and glanced to my right.
She sure does have a loud voice, huh? I could cleary hear her voice even with my headphones on.
Brushing it off, I turned my head away. I was going to switch the music when-
"Madali lang nga, 'di ba? Kakain lang ako saglit!"
Kunot-noo ako'ng bumaling uli sa babae. Her shrill voice somehow irritated me. She's in public, isn't she aware of that? Her phone call was audible to everyone.
She doesn't seem to care, though.
I drew a big breath. After being involved in a dating scandal with a member of a well-known POP girl group, I moved to Bicol in search of peace. I don't want to be the center of attraction. Being irritated by a blatant woman on my first day here's not cool. I'm hoping this isn't how my entire stay here will be.
I jerked my head in amazement when the woman glanced in my direction, waved and smiled briefly before turning back to the phone.
What was that? Kilala niya ako?
Once more brushing it off, I kept my attention on my phone. I cranked up the volume on my headphones as I observed the woman in front of me carrying a baby girl. The baby was staring at me, making me feel a little shy.
