I woke up feeling like I had been thrown into the heart of a storm. Every nerve in my body was on fire, my neck a searing blaze of pain. My mouth was dry and parched, like the remnants of a desert where no rain had fallen for years. My wrists were bound tightly behind my back, the rough rope cutting into my skin with every slight movement, and my ankles were tied in such a way that even the smallest shift sent waves of pain radiating through me, akin to the sensation of sunburn on an unbearably hot summer day.

The thick black blindfold over my eyes was suffocating, pressing so hard against my forehead that it felt like it was about to burst. The intense pressure gave me a splitting headache, each pulse of my heartbeat echoing painfully. The cold in the room was nearly unbearable, creeping into my bones and making my fingers numb with the threat of frostbite. Every breath I took was a labor, the icy air stinging my lungs.

I could smell the mustiness of the basement—a foul mixture of mildew and rot. The air was dense with the odor of decay, an all-too-familiar sign that I was trapped in the dank, grimy confines of some forgotten underground space. The smell was overpowering, making it nearly impossible to discern any other scents, not even my own. The scent of the vampires, however, was unmistakable—a coppery, metallic tang that made my stomach churn.

As I tried to orient myself, I focused on the voices drifting through the room. The muffled conversation was filled with an unsettling mixture of taunts and grim humor. Panic surged through me as I recognized the voices of my enemies—vampires. Not just any vampires, but the notorious Hunters of the Night. They were known for their relentless pursuit of supernatural beings, driven by a vicious thirst for blood and vengeance.

The fear that gripped me was primal, raw. My uncle had warned me about the Hunters of the Night. "They are the apex predators," he had said. "Their cruelty is boundless. They don't just hunt to kill; they hunt for pleasure, for sport. And when you're in their sights, there's no escape."

My breathing quickened, and I forced myself to stay calm, fighting against the rising tide of panic. I had to think clearly if I wanted any chance of escaping. The voices grew louder, and I could sense the presence of more figures entering the room. The leader, a tall and imposing figure with an aura of malevolence, stepped closer. His eyes were a deep, unsettling red, glowing with an unquenchable hunger. He knelt down to my level, his gaze piercing through the darkness, and I recoiled instinctively.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" His voice was smooth, almost seductive, but it dripped with a sinister undertone. "The female Alpha herself. Quite the prize. We've been searching for you for quite some time."

The leader's touch was icy as he reached out and grazed my left cheek with a disturbingly familiar gesture. "It's a shame we missed your sister a few years back," he continued, his voice laced with mock regret. "We were so close. So very close. But someone made a mistake."

I could barely focus, but his words hit me with a jolt of recognition. The leader's touch and his unsettling smile were the last things I needed right now. The horror of the situation was compounded by the fact that these vampires were known for their insatiable thirst for blood and their twisted sense of pleasure. My uncle's warnings flashed in my mind like a beacon of dread. Vampires from this family were not just dangerous—they were ruthless, and their cruelty was unparalleled.

As I struggled to stay composed, the basement door creaked open, and more figures entered the room. The stench of their presence was overwhelming—a mixture of anemic blood and the faint tang of silver, an unmistakable sign of their vampiric nature. The scent was so strong it made my nose burn, and I had to fight the urge to gag.

One of the newcomers, a man with a raspy, seductive voice, approached and crouched down beside me. His eyes roved over me with a predatory gleam. "Damn, she's a looker," he said, his voice dripping with dark amusement. "I saw her at school. Eric, you were right. The royal blood is definitely there. I bet she's got a taste to match."

Eric, the leader, gave a curt nod, his gaze never leaving me. "We need to keep her presence secret. If her brother finds out, he'll come after us with everything he has. And believe me, we don't want to deal with him. He's powerful, and his wrath is not something to be underestimated."

Another vampire standing near the door with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face, chimed in. "Eric's right. We've got to be careful. If her brother finds out, it could mean trouble for all of us. He's one of the most formidable wolves in their pack."

The mention of my brother, Colton, was a fleeting comfort. Colton was known for his strength and determination, and the thought of him coming to rescue me filled me with a glimmer of hope amidst the suffocating fear. I knew he would stop at nothing to find me and bring these monsters to justice. The idea of him storming into this place, his fury unleashed upon these vampires, was a bittersweet thought.

The conversation among the vampires continued, their voices a mix of mockery and sinister plotting. "So, what's the plan with our little prize?" One of them asked, his tone casual but laced with malice.

Eric's smile widened, revealing a set of sharp, predatory teeth. "We have a few options. We could ransom her. Her family's wealthy—two mansions, one for the Alphas and another for the Betas. We could ask for a substantial sum. If they don't pay, we kill her. It's not like there will be another female Alpha for a long time."

The thought of my family having to negotiate for my life—or worse, the prospect of my death—was almost too much to bear. I could feel a cold sweat breaking out on my forehead, my body trembling with fear. The possibility of never seeing my loved ones again, of being lost to them forever, was a chilling thought.

One of the vampires, his voice tinged with sarcasm, said, "Oh, I'm so scared of the big, bad Alpha and Beta. What are they going to do? Come and rescue her."

Another vampire, with a grim expression, replied, "I'm more worried about the former Alpha and Beta. They're the ones who killed our leader's mate. I remember the bloodshed. It still haunts my nightmares."

The mention of the former Alpha and Beta brought a rush of painful memories. I had been there during that brutal confrontation, witnessing the violence and carnage. The image of the woman they had killed, her body torn apart, was etched into my mind. I had been close by, protecting Hazel, and the trauma of that night was a constant shadow in my thoughts.

As the vampires continued to talk, I struggled to focus on finding a way out. The ropes binding me were tight, but if I could find a way to loosen them, I might have a chance. I scanned the room, searching for anything that could aid my escape. My heart pounded with every movement, each second ticking away as I planned my next move.

Suddenly, one of the vampires approached with a large, thick needle. My heart raced as he held it up, the metallic gleam catching the dim light. My eyes widened in terror as he inserted the needle into my arm. The sting of the injection was sharp, and I felt a wave of dizziness as the drug began to take effect. My vision blurred, and a nauseating wave washed over me. My limbs grew heavy, and my thoughts became sluggish.

As I began to lose consciousness, I heard the vampires' voices growing fainter. "We need to make sure the ransom is substantial," one of them said. "Her family's rich—two mansions. We can demand a hefty sum. If they don't pay, we kill her. No more female Alpha in this region."

The chilling thought of my family being forced to deal with my death was overwhelming. My body trembled uncontrollably as darkness closed in. I could feel the fear gnawing at me—the thought of never seeing my family, friends, or the world outside again. The darkness swallowed me, and my last coherent thoughts were of my loved ones—Colton, my parents, and everyone who mattered to me. I held on to the hope that they would find me and that they would come to my rescue before it was too late.

The vampires' laughter echoed in my ears as I succumbed to unconsciousness. I was left alone in the cold, eerie basement, abandoned behind a shut cell door. My mind drifted in and out of awareness, filled with a mixture of fear, hope, and despair. I could only wait and pray for salvation, hoping that my brother and the pack would come to my rescue before the darkness claimed me completely.
