When you walk around the city, whether you're in DC or the Big Apple, you notice the tall luxury buildings and the question that runs through your head the most is, "Who the hell is affording that place". We all know that rent in the city is absolutely ridiculous but how are these people living in there?
Most of the time I see people that are in their 20s or 30's running out of their $3,000 rented building with their purse dog, in a yoga outfit for their morning jog, at 11:30 am. While I'm still trying to pay off the credit card I maxed out on a dress I barely wore ( don't judge me, it was cute). But, Every time I see that, I think to myself "they gotta be using dad's money", or they just lied to get in...
And to keep it real, let's remember people lie to get into these luxury apartments, no doubt. But how are they keeping up with their rent??? It almost makes you feel bad if you do miss your rent. It's like, I'm over here hiding from the leasing office, while Stacy is going to brunch with the gwarls🤪.
The same girl I see posting on her instagram page of how she made $10,000 in one week and how she's going to Dubai next month. Why is this luxury apartment lifestyle marketing on social media so much. It's almost like they are convincing people that they can join that 1% of people who don't ever have to worry about financial income. When in fact, its damn near impossible.
Anyways, So I asked around people I know, how are you paying your rent in the city and you'd be surprised by the answers I got.
Anonymous 1: " I created my own business, I teach rich 30-year-olds how to play tennis".
Anonymous 2: " I have 3 jobs, but all of them pay minimum wage...".
Anonymous 3: " I have only fans and men pay me to show them my feet, it's a pretty good place to make money".
But then what are these jobs that are posted all over indeed and google jobs, like "data analysis"....what the hell is that? May I be ignorant for a moment and say they have 2 meetings a day and then go home?
When I first started looking for apartments, the numbers skyrocketed. The most I've seen for a studio is $2,700. For a Box. Is the white man laughing in my face? Because I'm sure they know the majority of people can not afford these places, yet they fill them up like their tax debt depends on it.
Maybe it's all a show, like in movies. No one can really afford these things like high rent and food from Trader Joe's/Whole Foods. I guess we'll never know.
