(The original is what started the trend on this channel for all of the short stories. You can thank the OG for all the other books we've written! That being said, being the book that brought the formula into place...it is only fitting that the reboot brings about...an upgraded formula. That's right! I'm finally adding names to the chapters! Yeehaw!)

(This may be comedy, yes, but the beginning is not quite as comedic as the original. Comment below which is better, I guess. The OG beginning or this one! XD)

Jeffery was the bestest boi. He never bit, never made a mess, and was easy to take care of!... Of course...you could say that about any other plant..but Jeffery was your plant...and that's all that mattered! No one could compare to Jeffery!

You leaned over the messy sink, taking your time to water your plant just enough so he wouldn't need any more for the rest of the week, but not so much that he would drown.

Behind you, two other ladies scurried around, preparing breakfast for everyone and cleaning up after themselves simultaneously.

"Hurry up, (Y/n)! Mrs. Pott'll be here any minute!" Carol, the oldest of the bunch, nudged you to get going and clean the dishes already. You finished watering Jeffery the miniature cactus and busied yourself with the sink loaded with dishes. "Ohhh, I sure hope that Kadence family doesn't show again today!... They always leave such a mess on their plates!"

"Aye, and they always leavin' mud all 'round the floor, too!" Kat piped back.

"Don't the Pott children do that enough?!" Carol huffed. You chuckled quietly behind them. Your mind wandered as always as you cleaned grime and grease off of the dirty old pots and pans one at a time. Often, it wandered to nowhere land, where anything was possible, but today... "(Y/n)!" Your head spun to the old lady. "Hand me some'a that clean water now will ya?! I forgot to fill this pot!" You quickly grabbed a pitcher you had just cleaned and filled it up. Handing it to her, the old lady thanked you kindly. Brash as she was, she was more than grateful for your kindness. It was a long time ago that you started volunteering to assist the maidens as they worked. Your distant aunt, who had offered you a place to stay after your father died, worked the ladies half to death! Feeling bad for them, as a little girl you decided to join in. Your distant aunt, Mrs. Pott, liked the free labor... Things have been the same ever since.

"Hurry hurry! Mrs. Pott's comin'!" Kat raced down from her peeking spot halfway up the spiral stairs, carrying her dirty skirt in her hands as she raced in to help Carol. You ran back to the pile of dishes, determined to make yourself look busy as possible!

          Tap...tap...tap...

The noblewoman's shoes slowly came down the stairs. Looming over you all from the doorframe of the kitchen, your distant aunt scowled down at you all. No one dared glance her way... Her fragile feet finally landed on the rough stone floor, stiffly holding herself up with her long, dark cane in hand. Your arms trembled, losing their grip on the rag. You tried to hide your clumsiness as much as possible..which was a hard thing to do in her presence...

          Tap.....tap...

Your distant aunt's expensive shoes began to move forward, the woman's glaring eyes inspecting every nook and cranny of the cave-like place. Most chillingly of all, she stopped suddenly. You shivered, knowing someone was in trouble.

"...Who was it that I told to clean out the fireplace last night?" Referring to the distant corner of the room, which instead of a kitchen was some space for an old wooden table, broken chair, and dirty cow-hide rug. The stone fireplace had yet to be cleaned of its ashes. All three of you women froze, glancing over at the dirty, darkened corner space... Not a single one opened your mouth to answer. "Well, don't just gape like idiots. WHO did I tell to clean the fireplace?!" Spit fired from he noblewoman's mouth as she yelled. Everyone else in the kitchen flinched. After a long pause, you began shrinking away. Your distant aunt noticed immediately. "I knew it was you!! I told you that plant was a distraction! Give it to me!!" The lady stomped towards you, huffing fire as she neared. Little whimpers sounding, you yanked Jeffery from the window sill and held him close, even if that meant he pricked you by accident now and again.
