The Fourth of July in Cousins is all about traditions. Susannah decks out the whole house. The dads come up for the weekend. The boys steam clams and shoot off fireworks. All the other fourth of July's I was just tagging along. But this year I have friends.. I have plans.

"Are we done with the portrait yet?" Steven says waking into the kitchen.
"Yeah for today.But you do look good in a dress shirt, Steven." Susannah says with a smile.
"Uh, which makes me think if Ella doesn't hurry up and ask Oliver to that ball, you should take her." She adds.
"Ew. No way. No, no, no, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm already going with Shayla," Steven screams. Thank god i'm going with Oliver.
"And I already asked Oliver" I say fake puking. I'm actually excited to go with him..I'm happy that I didn't let my desperation for Jer let me say yes to him.
"Steven your going to the debutante ball?" mom asks with a confused look on her face.
"Yes." "As an escort?" "Wrap your head around it, Mom, all right? Shayla's coming today with Nicole and Gigi, so you'll meet her," Steven says laughing
"That's wonderful." Susannah says with a smile.
"Oh dear I don't recognize my children anymore," mom jokes...but she might not be wrong.
I stand up to wash the dishes until Conny bumps into me. "Oh my bad," he says. "Oh no worries," I respond waking past him. Ever since I discovered the necklace he got for Belly, all I've ever done is steer clear of him. I just know that my chatterbox mouth would ask him why he didn't give it to her
"Oh and boys.. you dad's closing a deal, so he can't come," Susannah says looking down.
"What? Did you say Dad's not coming?" Conrad says with a disappointed tone. Oh boy.
"Mm-hmm." Susannah nods, avoiding Conny's stare.
"But I got some serious fireworks for the show this year," he adds.
"We'll take a video," she retort's.
"It's not the same," Jer says under his breath. The dads are so messy. Sometimes I wished it was just us. I don't want to see dads girlfriend, I don't want them to stay in the house, I don't want her to sleep in the room next to mine. _______________
"Don't you think it's weird that my dad is staying here with Victoria?" I ask Jeremiah while tying my hair up in a high pony. "Well, I'm sure they're not gonna have loud sеx."
