Alison

~

Non of us understood well what he meant by we are totally on our own until we found out no field agents tagged along.

We were only working with Zerd, the chief's right hand man. I don't understand why chief was making such a drastic decision.

Nonetheless, we still set to work our way into the surveillance.

It didn't take long before I hacked into the surveillance, really it was a piece of cake. I later learnt Vitali had changed his meeting time with Alonso which prompted my boss to change the operation time.

Everything was going on smoothly as we waited patiently for the black bull so we could take it by the horn, well not until my computer was shut down.

I checked others and the same thing, it was shut down. We all looked at ourselves before looking at the chief.

"Don't just look at me, recover the damn thing."
He was now standing behind us, looking down directly at us.

We began to fixate, trying to find a possible means of restoring everything and the thing is, we were completely locked out.

"It could only mean one thing."
I began, waving my fingers to strengthen it, something I do anytime I'm getting ready to break some walls.

"We're not the only ones, and they're better."
Andrew got ahead of me, staring blankly at his computer.

"No they're not, we only need some few seconds."

It was very simple to break down their security wall.

"But we need to move closer to get a better frequency."

"We can't move any closer, there's guards mounted everywhere and this van is too large to conceal."
The chief's agitated voice said behind us.

"We can at least try."
Betty said weakly beside Andrew.

"From here I mean."

"We can but it's going to take longer time and we may be too late."
I said convincingly looking intently at the chief.

"Considering others are also trying to barge in."
For the first time, Andrew was on the same lane with me.

I didn't have time though to appreciate the fact.

"Zerd what's happening in there."
Chief spoke into the microphone with earpiece attached to his ear while gesturing we should keep trying to gain back the podium.

"He's in position but we are acting blindly."

My laptop came back alive, that gave me a bit of confidence as I inhaled sharply. I strengthened my fingers, rubbed my palms together and was ready to set to war.

I was not listening as I tried to break the walls. I must testify that this hackers are pros as their security setup was complicated and on three different levels.

It was simple, if you manage to break all three then they would've been done with what they're doing.

Minutes I was already on the third wall but then it was a timer that will lock me out forever if I don't try to get pass it. I inhaled again and again already loosing counts of them when my chief's hand rested on my shoulders.

"Take it easy baby."

That's odd of him calling me that, but it still relaxed me. I closed my eyes and opened them, getting the confidence to beat the clock. My fingers worked tirelessly on the keyboard, I know them by heart.

Everything in me was just on the screen as series of code appeared, two attempts were already wrong and I have just one left.

I looked over at the two beside me and found out they've had their eyes on me the whole time, Andrew's hateful stare being replaced with unsaid words of encouragement and a hint of admiration. That alone made me have the unimaginable courage as I went for the last phase.

I'm doing this for my country, for my country. I kept repeating in my heart till my fingers began to move again.

After I typed the last number I closed my eyes, not expecting the worst but definitely not expecting it to work. It was still a mere wish that it works. I tried to control my beating heart as they ponded violently against my ribcage.

The silent atmosphere didn't work to ease the tension, I could feel all the stares, not at me but the screen and I can feel how anxious they were as me.

"Yes! Yes! Yes!!!!"

The chief screamed audibly behind me jerking me from subconsciousness, forcing me to pry open my eyes to look at the screen. I looked at my colleagues, the look of excitement plastered on their faces.

"Well done."
Betty said to me and I just nodded.

I looked over at Andrew expecting the worst but he still had this silent admiration in his eyes just that now it was mixed with happiness which he's trying so hard to hide.

"We're back on so let's not waste a second. Locate him Pebble, Betty search the parameters to see of any treat other than our men, Nerd get me the secret exit in view."

We all began to work again, the former excitement flying out the horizon, each of us resuming our beast mode as we tried to carry out orders.

"Zerd, 45 degree East is clear, closer to the VIP, we need a clear view."
Andrew was speaking into the speakers getting all serious.

"Not a big deal."
Zerd replied from the other end, the background noise almost making it impossible to hear him.

I got the building layout, trying hard to locate the exit my boss talked about but it wasn't in it.

"Can't find the secret exit."

"I expected it not to be there. Just search through any loopholes, report of any abnormality till we find it."

How the hell was I going to find something I don't even know where to start looking.

"Zerd, can you move closer to fire exist 2. The one closest to the VIP stairs."

This was the part where I loved my job the most, although this is the first time giving this orders in a close proximity other than the office, but I'm glad I still have to experience this earlier than I thought.

"Checking floor one."
My eyes danced through the screen as my fingers moved on the mouse pad, scrutinizing, searching and calculating.

I was already getting immersed into this, we all were, until the screen display began to flicker. They were trying to jam it again, effortlessly disrupting our work.

We three looked at each other before looking at the chief again.

His left hand on his waist, right on his forehead and he continually shouted damn it. He turned away from his, checked his phone.

He looked like he was contemplating really hard, I don't know to what but he looked really worried. When he seems to have made up his mind he turned back towards us, looking each of us in the eye.

"We are getting ready for plan B."

OMG I'm getting goosebumps already.
