I Hate charity balls, especially when they are host by my parents, don’t get me wrong I have nothing against helping other people. I actually love it.

When I since about ten years old I saw this lady once on my way home from school, she had her baby in her arms wrapped in a blanket, they were sleeping in the streets.

I don’t know much about babies or how old or big they get overtime, since I’m an only child, but the baby looks like a newborn because it is so tiny that if the lady dropped it in her sleep, the baby could die in an instant.

I remember that I was almost ran-over by a car because I couldn’t stop staring at them.

When I was finally out of my pity state, I pulled 50$ out of my wallet that I was saving for weeks to buy this new toy train. They were asleep and I would feel bad to just wake them and give them the 50$ bill, that would be like screaming,

“Look! I’m a 10-year-old child who is giving his week's worth of allowance to a homeless woman and her BABY!”

I wasn’t pompous like what my parents are doing right now.

I didn’t even have second thoughts when I  take a develop out of my backpack and put the 50$ bill there, I then shove it under the cardboard box the lady was sitting on, and just ran home.

The next day I never saw them again on my way home to school, the next day and for a full week on my way home. I was getting a little worried about them, so one day after school I ran to the traffic enforcer who has assigned there, and ask where the lady went. If she was okay and if her baby was okay, and where they were.

The traffic enforcer then said.

“I saw her and her baby yesterday at around 5 pm or so. She was holding an envelope and jumping crazily and screaming,

“I can finally go home! Auburn we can finally go home! God bless whoever gave this!”

And then she made a call in the phone booth. And rode a bus to I don’t know where.” he replied.

“Auburn?” I ask smiling wildly at what he just said to me.

“Yeah, Auburn I think is what she said. I think it's her baby’s name. But whatever was in the envelope just change their lives. That baby’s life.”

I smile even wilder and thanked him for the information he just gave me.

That’s when I realize that making other people happy is much, much better than making yourself happy.
I was even happier than if I have bought that toy train.

If I have brought the toy train, instead of giving it to them, what are the chances that they can go to wherever is it they were going that made the lady scream and jump happily?
That’s when I found the joy of helping others.

Not like my parents.
I know for a fact that they are only doing this because my Grandparents are in town. They never help other people occasionally.

Just to show face, that’s for sure.

“Ledger. Ledger! Are you even listening to me?”
