The town of Hawkins, Indiana, has finally fallen asleep after a festive night, if not for a few highschoolers still making the best of that last day before Spring break. On the edge of town, two lights break the darkness. A car with Georgia plates slows down, turns into the Forest Hills trailer park and stops by the line of mailboxes, without any witness.

A mile away, 19-year-old Eddie Munson abandons his van to the side of a forest road, stumbles to the closest tree and throws up. He leans against the trunk, slides down to the ground and starts crying. Imprinted in his mind, the picture of the mangled body of a cheerleader he wishes he’d never offered Special K.
