In this segment of the guide I will tell you how to know if your tires are good or bad, worn out or good to use, so we better start!
How to know if your tires are worn out?
So, most of people will use the 'Lincoln's head' technique althrough it should be called 'Lincoln's forehead' by my standards. Anyways, you will want to take a coin with Lincoln's head on it and put it in the thread of the tire. If the forehead is all hidden, then you're all okay. If it's a part of the head, then the tires will need replacing soon - and if it's just the tip of the head - replace those bad boys because they wont do you good. Here's a visual example in case you did not understand a bit of what i said.
How do indicate that you have bought bad tires.
So, bad tires would get blisters and bulges quickly - it being from a weak-spot in a tire which shouldn't be a thing and is not in good quality tires. The next indicator is the vibration. Ofcourse, everyone driving a car will expect some vibration, but if it is strong and even on good quality roads then the tires aren't good. The last one is Treadwear warrenty - a one of a good quality tire should be around 70,000 miles and can be longered if the tire is well maintained. A bad tire has it much worse - or sometimes absoloutely none, when the tire can wear down in just a mile-long drive.
Puncturing
So, if your veichle has somehow punctured a tread of a tire, everything should be okay - it can be fixed. We can't say the same about the sidewall, where it's much more weaker and not so thick therefore any scratch is a hazard.
Types of tires
There are tires for every kind of weather, veichle and occasion - let me briefly introduce them to you! The ones your car will have are most likely all-season tires which are useful in every season every weather but could be a bit dangerous on ice. The next ones are Winter - which well, are used in winter. There are also spiked winter tires which many people in north will use to lessen the chance of a crash. There are also preformance tires designed for driving at high speeds, and Touring tires which will make the long rides comfortable. Then there's also High Preformance tires who can handle very high speeds as long as the road is dry.
There's also different 'special' tires for racing - soft tires or 'softs' as they call them are for dry weather and wear down very fast, but you can drive the fastest with them. Supersofts are well - super softs who wear down even faster, but drive faster too. Medium tires are well - medium. Medium speed and Medium treadwear warrenty. Then there's hard tires who wear down very slowly, but the speed will not be as great either. There's also Inters and Wets - inters for weather in which it could rain and wets for when the track is wet. This is for F1, Pirelli supplying those.
The best tire brands there are
If you're looking for good tires, then you probably should look around a great brand too. Bit, great tires come with a price - remember that.
Michelin has the best tires over all, Goodyear is the second, making the most durable tires. Nascar uses those. Cooper is the third and has the most affordable tires, Bridgestone will do the best for flat-run tires and the last on the list is Pirelli who supplies tires best for high-preformance. I hope that this was useful.
