Mitch's POV

I carry the corpses of animals like a prize I just won at the fair. Expect if I didn't won these, we'd starve. I'm happy, though. With or without food. I'd be happy.
Though I am bummed I didn't find a lake to get water from, its okay.
Come to think of it, I've been around these woods several times, and still no lake. Is there ever a lake here? I thought. That might not be the case, but it might not be entirely wrong if we haven't seen any source of water yet.
I shrugged the thought off, trying to think of Jerome and how proud he'd be and what his face look like when I bring these bad boys out.

I hurried up and steadied my pace.

I have to get back quickly, before the corpses start to rot. I hugged my jacket with the rabbit in it. It wasnt very fat, but fat enough.

I stopped. I hear rustling around me. Then screaming. Then silence.
"Hello?" I called out. Bad idea on my part.

There was no answer. Just another scream. My heart started beating hard. I started to panic.
Maybe I should get back to Jerome. Rustling started again. Now.
I started running towards the direction I was headed before. The screaming and rustling started to happen more often than before. It seemed to follow me.
In a panic, I started to yell. "JEROME!!"
I kept screaming his name, but he didn't reply. No one did. The panic thoughts came back to me.
What if someone found Jerome? What if he lays dead on the ground. He might have died alone.
I ran faster and faster until I couldn't no more, even then I pushed myself to go further. I almost collapsed. My lungs burned. I started having a coughing fit and tears rolled down my cheeks. Either from the burning lungs or from the thought of Jerome dead, I couldn't tell.
I screamed again. It burned my lungs more and more each time I did it, but I didn't care. I screamed and screamed until I couldn't scream anymore, until my voice was hoarse.
Nothing more than silent screams and crys. Then a canon booming.
I curled fell and curled on the leaf covered dirt, crying more and more, hugging my jacket with the rabbit I got for him. I was for sure I was alone.

Forever.
