Usually, Stephen was the one to wake up first, but on rare occasions, Tony would wake first. And he always treasured those moments because it meant that he could see his lover, Stephen Strange, as just that... Stephen.

He could see the doctor without his stress.

He could see the sorcerer without the wrinkles in his forehead from concentrating too hard.

He could see the parent without grey hair.

Well, that last one wasn't really true, but in a way, it was.

Tony loved waking up first because he could watch Stephen, memorize his face (they've had too many close encounters when Tony thought he'd never see his husbands face again), listen to his steady breathing, feel his beating heart, and know that Stephen Strange was alive, and whole, and safe.

And to Tony Stark, that meant the world.

And if Tony set his alarm earlier than usual the day after a battle just to reassure himself that Stephen was next to him, stress and worry free, and to watch the sorcerer's chest rise and fall, no one mentioned it.
