Althea;
The quidditch match had finished with Hufflepuff barely beating Slytherin by only ten points. The game ended up lasting longer than expected, and I was beyond starving. After walking back from the pitch, I made my way to the Great Hall with Jade closely walking next to me.
Gossiping and chatting away while finding seats at the Slytherin table, I felt people's eyes on us. I wouldn't say Jade and I were particularly popular, not like how Cedric is, but we were well known, talked about even. We were a dynamic duo, or trio if you include Quinn. A part of me liked the attention, liked turning boys' heads when I walked by. It was just like a game to me anyways, a little fun when I get bored of always studying.
Jade and I finally spotted an open space near Quinn and sat ourselves down.
"Argh, can you believe how that match ended? My hand was practically touching the golden snitch before Cedric had cut me off!"
Quinn stuffed a bread roll into his mouth and continued to scoff and roll his eyes at the outcome of the game.
I laughed at his angry eating, "yeah that's how you play the game, Quinn".
Jade and I looked at each other and shook our heads, laughing at his annoyed expression.
"You know you would've done the same thing," Jade raised an eyebrow at him.
He shoved another bread roll in his mouth and looked away, angry that Jade called him out.
"Ha! He knows I'm right, too!"
Quinn whipped his head around, "yeah well, I just can't stand Diggory. He thinks he is like the king of the school or something."
"Now that I can agree with you on," Jade agreed, causing Quinn's face to brighten.
As soon as the conversation topic had turned to Cedric, my face got dark. Never missing a beat, Jade immediately noticed my change in mood.
"Hey, speaking of Cedric, you better not think that I missed the little eye contact you guys made earlier on the pitch," Jade nudged me and winked.
My face shot up as she said this, bright red flushing throughout my cheeks as I searched to see if anyone overheard. Embarrassed, I elbowed her lightly in the arm, "Jade! Put a cap in it will ya'?"
She yelped and grabbed her arm all dramatic-like, pretending that I had just stabbed her with a knife.
"What is this! An attempt at my life?" Jade pleaded sarcastically, "also, it's not like this is anything new, you guys have those little cringe moments all the damn time" she snickered.
"What do you mean 'you guys' and 'moments', there is none of that with us. We're strangers and that's how I intend to keep it."
Untrusting in my first year, I had told Jade what happened with Cedric and I after a couple weeks. I'm still as distrustful as my younger self, I just hide it better now. Jade was right though, no matter how much I tried to avoid him it seemed like Cedric was around every corner I turned.
I hated it.
The negativity I feel for him doesn't even have to do with what happened my first year, that was long ago and I've gotten over it. It's the reputation that circles him that I dislike. Sure, he may be a really "great guy", but I've heard many stories of his hot-headed and party animal moments. He was always with a girl. If he wasn't with his constant on and off girlfriend, Cho Chang, he'd be with someone else. I don't like his cockiness, and certainly can't stand his whole 'golden boy' thing. It seems like everything revolves around him. It was like he had the entire school over some spell.
