Josh's P.O.V
Everyone woke up around the same time and gathered to start creating a plan for getting water.Noah, Tayler, Bryce and Quinton had gone to search the suitcases for containers or anything we could hold water in and the rest of us were going over the plan.
"Okay so Josh you lead since you're the one who knows where the pool is," griffin said drawing a little stick man to represent me in the sand. "Anthony will walk beside you, then Tayler and Bryce followed by Kio, Jaden and Quinton. Then finally Noah and I will take up the back. We walk in these groups and if something goes wrong and the forest walker finds us we split up and run in these pairs as we'll too easy to catch in one big group. Stay as quiet as possible. We do this fast and we'll be fine."
The other had returned with various water bottles and plastic boxes and I got handed a blue one with a little blue whale on the side. I tried not to think about how the a kid owned this once and the kid was probably floating dead in the ocean somewhere.
I was also handed a stick of bamboo that had been sharpened to a point at one end. "Thought you might need this since you seem to like weapons." Anthony smirked at me. "I sharpened them last night when I was on watch."
"Thanks." I nodded at him gratefully. I'm glad someone thought of weapons.
"Okay are we ready?" Griffin asked and received a chorus of 'yes's' and one 'no I mean yes I mean kinda' from Quinton who got a shove from Kio. "Let's go then."
We started walking towards the treelike in our pairs and one three and Anthony turned round and slowed a bit.
"What?" I asked.
"What about him?" Anthony said gesturing to Blake who still hadn't said anything.
"I don't know. I'm sure he'll be fine let's just go." I said and Anthony nodded before disappearing into the thick green leaves of the forest.
I ducked under after him and one by one we were all enveloped in the cool damp darkness of the forest. I stopped for a moment to listen to the various sounds.
There were birds chirping above and I could hear the rustling of the leaves and creaking of their trunks ahead. The various twigs and leaves scattering the forest floor crunched beneath my feet as I stepped across them with my old beat up trainers.
As we walked the occasional slither of sunlight passed through the canopy above and lit up our faces. I looked at Anthony occasionally while we walked silently and he caught my eye a couple times and smiled. His eyes looked pretty when they glistened in the sunlight and I realised i'd seen them before.
"You looked at me on the plane didn't you?" I said quietly, the others where a few paces behind and I kept my voice low to avoid alerting unwanted attention.
"No, I was looking around and you happened to be staring right at me with your stupid big blue eyes." Anthony replied.
"Okay well I didn't think you would turn around." I said sheepishly.
"You said you were going on holiday with your family but I didn't see them beside you on the plane."
"My mom was but my sister and my dad where behind me.." I trailed off not really wanting to continue. My family where all probably dead. "I'm lucky to have survived but my parents where such loving people and my sister had her whole life ahead of her-"
"Hey it's okay," Anthony interrupted me and squeezed my shoulder. "I know it must be hard and I'm sorry about your family. We can talk about something else if you like." Anthony said and reached out to wipe the stray tear that had fallen from my eye. I hadn't even realised I was crying.
