The morning sun streamed through the windows of the hotel as Abby, Aurelio, Gianna, Tiffany, and Kaitlin made their way down the hallway towards the elevator. Aurelio paused briefly to sign a few autographs for eager fans, flashing them his trademark smile before rejoining the group. They piled into a taxi van, and after a brief ten-minute ride, they arrived at the Fern Adair Conservatory of the Arts, the venue for their Thunderstruck rehearsal.
Inside the conservatory, the atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation. Abby wasted no time in addressing her team. "Welcome to Las Vegas!" she announced with her usual flair. "Let's take a moment to reflect on last week's Starpower competition. Some of you did exceptionally well, but overall, the performance was underwhelming. I thought bringing in Brandon would turn things around, but the results were a letdown. This week, we have Thunderstruck here in Las Vegas, and we've got just four days to turn things around. Remember, this group has never failed to place in the top scores, so this week, perfection is non-negotiable."
With that, Abby unveiled the Pyramid of Success. The lower row featured Brookie, Mackenzie, and Paige. In the middle row, Nia held her spot. At the top were Brooke's photo, with Maddie and Chloe's headshots on the side, indicating they would have the week off but would participate in the group dance, "Sinful." Mackenzie and Brookie were assigned a duet for the upcoming competition, while Paige had a solo titled "Tongue Twister," and Brooke's solo was named "Metamorphosis." The moms and girls quickly dispersed to prepare for their rehearsals.
Two days later, Abby decided to take a break from the rigorous schedule and treat everyone to ice cream at the Rumir Boutique Resort's parlor. The group settled into a U-shaped booth: Aurelio sat to Abby's left, Tiffany beside him, and Maddie, Mackenzie, Nia, and Brookie to Tiffany's left. Brooke, Paige, and Chloe were on Abby's right.
"Do you all know what this spoon is for?" Abby asked, holding up her own.
"Ice cream?" Aurelio ventured with a grin.
"Exactly!" Abby clinked spoons with Aurelio, and the laughter of Tiffany and the girls filled the air.
"We need some service here," Chloe said, looking around.
"Definitely," Paige agreed. Moments later, two giant sundaes were delivered to their table.
"Those sundaes are huge," Maddie commented, her eyes widening at the sight.
"Totally massive," Mackenzie and Brookie chorused as they began digging in.
"We love ice cream," Brooke declared with a satisfied smile.
Abby turned to Aurelio playfully. "Aure, you've got a little something right here..." she said, tapping her own cheek with a bit of ice cream before flicking it towards Aurelio's cheek.
The group burst into laughter, including Abby and Aurelio. But as the laughter died down, Abby's expression grew serious.
"Relio, Tiff, girls, listen up," she said firmly. "We're in Las Vegas and we're here to enjoy ourselves, but I won't tolerate any nonsense from the moms. When I'm correcting you, it's about improving your performance. I'm not here to deal with rude, obnoxious behavior or constant eye-rolling from the mothers. They do not pay me enough to handle their nonsense."
The mood shifted as everyone realized the gravity of Abby's words.
The day of the competition arrived, and at the Green Valley Ranch Resort, the tension was palpable in the dressing room. Abby, Aurelio, Gianna, Tiffany, and Kaitlin awaited the arrival of the moms and girls.
"Where could they be?" Aurelio asked, peering towards the entrance.
"I wish I knew," Gianna sighed, her frustration evident.
