We'd been at the resort for a couple of days now and I was starting to get bored since I was, as always, the odd woman out. Usually that was fine and dandy with me; I like my alone time. But lately it seemed as if my days were repeating themselves.
It wasn't like I was doing it to myself, it was just that all of the plans I was included in weren't until later in the trip. (And you knew it was bad when even your parents didn't bother to spend time with you.)
I was afraid I was going to go crazy from the feeling of being pent up in our resort room. Sometimes I'd think it'd have been better for me to have stayed home. At least back in LA, I knew the good places to go and could go whenever I wanted since I had my own car there.
But starting from when I woke up, I felt different that Friday. It felt like something was going to change; I relished the feeling. But I knew I couldn't just wait for it to happen; I had to initiate it.
Everything started when Ariana and Vallerie were preparing themselves to go to this club they'd heard of. I was watching as Ariana straightened Vallerie's wild curls out that I got over my nerves to ask.
"Can I come with you guys tonight?" I blurted out, tripping over my tongue more than once.
I expected an immediate no. I did believe that the girls liked me but I was still the kid sister who they didn't want to babysit. Instead of the reaction I thought I'd recieve, I just saw their eyes lock in the mirror they were in front of.
The muscles of their faces were hardly twitching, no sound escaped their lips, but they were still understanding the other. It was like some secret body language that they had managed to perfect over their many years of friendship. Finally, after what seemed like forever, Vallerie's shoulders lifted slightly and Ariana gave a small shrug in return.
"Alright, you can come," they chorused as Ariana continued to touch up on Vallerie's straightened hair.
"But! We don't want to see you drink a sip of alcohol, understood?" Vallerie said sternly. Her blue eyes seemed to smile at me even though her lips did not. Was I not getting something?
"I understand?" I said, the words sounding more like a question.
"I don't think you do," Vallerie said, looking at me and widening her eyes a bit. "We do not want to SEE you drink a single sip of alcohol, are we clear?"
"Oh," I said, feeling dumb at my late understanding. "Yes, we're clear." Not like they had to worry about that; I wasn't exactly a fan of drinking.
"Good," Vallerie smiled. "Now go find something to wear; we're leaving in two hours." I nodded and went over to one of the room's many bureaus that I was using during our trip. After rummaging through the drawers for awhile, I decided on an outfit. I didn't want to put it on until my hair and makeup were done so I laid it out on my bed and set to work.
By eight o'clock, we were all ready for our night out. Ariana and Vallerie had finished early with themselves so they helped me with my hair and makeup which sped things up. We all stood in front of the mirror and made sure everything was in place one last time.
"Cass, have you ever been to a nightclub before?" Vallerie asked me as she smoothed her turquoise blue dress down.
"Yeah, who hasn't?" I replied adding another coat of mascara.
"Really? I never knew that," Ariana said, tugging at her red halter top and fixing a hoop earring.
"It wasn't very eventful last time, is all," I said. Even as the memory of the drunken imbeciles from last time came to the forefront of my mind, I was determined to have a good time tonight. Not like they'd be there. I would dance like crazy and enjoy my first real night out with Ariana and Vallerie.
