The 24th Hunger Games

Chapter 1-The Reaping

I wake up looking around my room I grab a spear that's sitting in the corner of my room. I run down my stairs to see my 5 year old brother Ethan and 14 year old sister Hannah eating breakfast. I grab a plate of eggs and a cup of orange juice and sit down at the table. "Cody dad is working late today so he won't be at the reaping" mom says with a frown on her face.

"It's ok it's just like every year" I tell her angrily. I quickly finish my eggs and wash it down with the orange juice grab my spears and jog out the door. I start running towards the training center. I walk through the door and see Julie the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. I've liked her since I was 2 but I've never had the guts to talk to her.

After about an hour of throwing spears and weight lifting I head back home to get ready for the reaping. I'm heading back home and I walk inside and see Hannah in a pretty orange dress and Ethan in a tiny blue dress shirt. I run up stairs take a quick shower and grab a white dress shirt and some jeans. I comb my short brown hair and run outside to catch up with my friends.

I see Ryan and Jake waiting just outside my house. "Hey loser better hurry up" Jake says sarcastically. I jump down my steps and we all race to the town square like usual I get there first followed by Ryan and Jake. We are first in line for the sign in stands they have a little book that says"CODY SANDER 6'3 189 LBS 16 yrs." they prick my finger and I walk to the 16 year old guy section. I'm standing next to Ryan and my worst enemy Arron. A propo for the hunger games comes on about the war and all that stuff. Then a tall lady with a stretched face and orange outfit walks to the mic and it booms all over she says "Welcome to the 24th annual hunger games ladies first!" She walks over to the bowl and says "HANNAH SANDER!" No no she can't go please someone volunteer I think to myself. "I volunteer" yells Julie. Great now the girl I've been in love with since I was 2 is going to her death. "What's your name" the escort asks her. "Julie, Julie Redwood" she says trying to act strong. "Now for the boys" the escort says. She digs in the pile for what seems like an eternity then pulls out one slip. Then she walks up to the mic and says "CODY SANDER."

I can't believe it I am going to the hunger games and I know no one while volunteer for me because all the guys are cheering for me and patting me on the back. I walk up to the stage and the announcer says "congratulations to our tributes from district 1." I can hear all the guys chanting my name and cheering and were directed into the justice building. I'm sitting in my room and the peacekeeper says 5 minutes opens the door and little Ethan comes running in his big blue eyes red and still pouring out with tears. I pick him up and hold him next to me. My sister comes up to me hugging and begging me to win. My mom just stands there with her eyes filled with tears. They are all telling me to win as they are being pulled out of the room.

The door opens again and Ryan and Jake run in we all just sit there hugging and they start explaining what I need to do to win. The peacekeeper pulls them out and I get escorted towards the train as I'm walking on I see Ethan balling his eyes Hannah hugging mom and Ethan and Jake are just sitting there with no expression on there face.
