Hi there. So I'm updating this again so that I'll hopefully pull some readers back. I really do love it when readers vote and comment, because it forms a connection and isn't that just cool? Anywho,

Read on, lovely people. :)

...

"Oh, honey. Everyone who's our age and looking to marry knows who he is. He is the most eligible bachelor in all of New York and there's lots of them in this city.", Evette grinned evilly and waved her hand in a flamboyant manner.

I groaned internally, she can be such a social climber sometimes. I wish she would just realize that marriage is more than just status, or what the other person can offer, or how rich the person is. I wholeheartedly believe that love is something of the soul and not the body, it can't be bought, forced and most of all - taken. Love is natural and comes like a tidal wave. It engulfs you, consumes you, it completes you, because let's face it, without love, life would be empty and pointless, it's such a blessing and if you are lucky to experience it or have it you better cherish it.

"Of course he is...but who cares about all that, really?", I narrowed my eyebrows, honestly wondering if that's all she cares for.

"Now don't say it doesn't matter at all, to you, Jane. Because if you did you'd be lying.", Evette tilted her head sideways.

I looked her dead in the eyes and spoke firmly, "Not in the slightest." And smiled sweetly.

"On a lighter note, Cooper and I are doing great! We're going to Hamptons next weekend. Oh! That reminds me. Would you ladies like to join us at the beach house?", Maggie smiled.

Leave it to Margaret, the peacekeeper, to notice when a conversation is beginning to get tense and change the subject smoothly.

"Oh, of course, Maggie. I'd love to, who's going, besides you two and us?", I returned her smile.

"Well, I assumed just us...and the boys?", She asked the last part.

"Meaning you're boyfriends and just little old me. Right...oh, fun!", I said sarcastically.

"You won't be by yourself, not entirely. Evette is currently single.", Maggie pleaded.

"Actually, I heard a certain bachelor is available and I've got my sights set.", Evette winked.

Maggie glared at her and then looked to me, "Maybe you could bring that guy you were talking about, he seems nice."

"Definitely not, Maggie! I hardly know him!", I explained.

"...Well, that didn't stop you from almost sleeping with him last night..", Evie mumbled, rudely.

I snapped my head towards her and nodded my head while smiling sardonically, "You know what? I think I'm just gonna leave. There seems to be a sudden animosity," I directed that towards Evie. "Lingering and I can't, for the life of me, understand why.", And with that, I stood up while grabbing my purse.

"Oh, Jane. Please don't leave, you just got here." Maggie put her hand on my forearm. "Evie, you'll be cordial, won't you?", She demanded more than asked, as sweetly as she could.

That's just how Margaret is. She's a sweet soul, and calm by nature, unless you push her over the edge.

"Oh, I'm just teasing, sit, Jane. I mean it's not like you would have done it, anyways. No guy is ever good enough for Jane. Not even her own family.", Evette spoke casually, as if she didn't say something so terrible to me.
