Birds' soft singing filled the air, and brought joy to whoever listened. Apart from the gentle songs, it was fairly quiet in the forest today. Footsteps in the long grass were barely heard over the breeze of cooling air, but what was heard was the crunching of the autumn leaves underneath his leather shoes.

Soviet was just a young boy, but he was definitely much more mature than other children his age. He was also a lot taller, so he already looked like a teenager when he was only 11. But his curiosity remained. The forest was a safe place for Soviet; it was calm and peaceful and there was no one to bother him. He would come here whenever he was upset or if he just wanted to be on his own. This place was especially needed when his father, his last surviving relative, passed away about a month ago. Becoming an orphan hit him like a ton of bricks and left a weight on his shoulders that he couldn't shake off. He wanted someone to talk to, but also wanted to be left alone.

The more Soviet wandered through the trees, the more he wondered if he was doing something wrong. He had pushed all his friends away out of grief, and now he was left alone. This was what he had wanted, right? Even so, there was not much he could do about it because he had turned cold towards everyone and no one wanted to talk to him anymore.

Turning a corner, he spotted a tree stump and went to sit down. He took a deep breath and relaxed, just listening to the birds in the trees as they composed more songs. Peace and quiet.

But not for long.

A loud shriek came from the trees behind him, which terrified him and made his blood run cold. Soviet slowly turned his head only to see... something hidden behind a tree. It looked like a person, but it couldn't be. People didn't have wings, and nor did they have tails and horns; whatever this was, it wasn't human. He opened his mouth to scream, but nothing came out. All he could do was stare in horror.

Though the creature, too, seemed to be frightened. It appeared to be shaking a little and covering itself with its wings. Pointing a slightly clawed finger at him, it proceeded to shout-

"A human!! A human!! Oh my God- please don't hurt me!!"

Both were frozen in their places, as they were too afraid of how the other would react. But after a minute, Soviet stood up, which made the creature instantly back away. He held out his hand for the other to take, however it did not move. Retreating his hand back, he decided to speak up.

"Как тебя зовут?"

"H-huh??"

"Oh.. um.. What is your name..?"

"Why do you want to know?!"

Soviet seemed a little hurt, but it was expected since just a minute ago they were unable to speak out of fear.

"Well... Mine is Soviet, if you wanted to know."

"So..vi..et..."

"Да, that's how you say it."

"How do I know you're not lying?!"

"Why would I lie?"

"Because you're a human and I'm not!!"

"I didn't lie, I promise."

"Ok... My name is Britain then."

Soviet felt some sort of satisfaction that Britain trusted him enough to give him his name. He found it more difficult to speak English since his first language was Russian, but at least they'd be able to understand each other this way.

"That is a nice name."

"Oh- thanks. I suppose yours is too."

The human smiled and shrugged.

"I don't mean to be rude, but what are you? You're clearly not human, but I don't know the English for дракон."

"Um- It sounds pretty similar actually. I'm a dragon, like my brothers!"

"Brothers?"

"Yeah, I have five older brothers, do you not have any siblings or something?"

"Нет, I'm an only child."

"Where are your parents then, Soviet?"

"My parents are dead."

"Oh... Mine are too."

"Ah. Sorry."

"I'm sorry too."

Silence filled the air as the two stared at each other awkwardly.

"I- I should be going now. It was nice meeting you though."

With that, the dragon turned away and began to leave. Soviet found himself wanting Britain to stay, which was unlike him. It had been unlike him to want to stay in the presence of someone for the past month. But something about this dragon was... different.

"Wait!"

Britain stopped in his tracks and turned around; he was surprised at being stopped. Why did he stop him? Did he want something? Maybe he had lied to him this entire time and now he was going to kill him for his wings-

"What?"

"Can we meet again? Please?"

"Uhm... Ok... When and where?"

"In the same place as today, of course. And tomorrow afternoon, if that's okay with you?"

"Yeah, I suppose I can do that."
