Gotham's Protector

Gotham City: 2010

For years, Gotham has had a reputation of being a cesspool of violence and corruption, even as far as the police department and political figures. The ones who are elected to keep the city and its citizens safe, are the ones who are further allowing the wave of destruction.

However, in the past year, while crime is still high and corruption still contaminates the city, fear runs through the hearts of every thug, drug dealer and mugger and it comes when his symbol hits the sky.

Ever since his first appearance, the Batman of Gotham has made the city safer, even if it's just a little. No one knows who he is or why he does what he does, does he do it for the thrill or is it for some higher purpose? Brutal but fair, skilled but mysterious, these were traits that made him a prime target for SHIELD

The Batcave

Alfred Pennyworth rode the elevator down to Bruce Waynes base of operations, which he named the Batcave. As per usual, Mr. Wayne had spent most of the night down here upgrading and testing out his gear, it was an unhealthy habit he had but he knew that he had to do it if he was to keep up with the criminals of Gotham. Bruce hadn't even noticed Alfred had entered the cave until he spoke up, announcing his arrival.

"You missed dinner again, Master Wayne" Alfred said with a hint of concern in his voice, Bruce momentarily paused his work on his cowl. "I've been busy, Alfred. I need to upgrade the cowl material and sensors again; I need something stronger." he explained

Alfred sighed before continuing "You still need to take care of yourself, sir. You won't be any use to the city if you are malnourished. Also, when was the last time you got any sleep?" Bruce didn't say anything which all the answer Alfred needed. "I know you want to do what's right, to do right by your family, but you won't be able to do anything of the kind if you keep this up Master Wayne." he set the tray of food on the table next to him before walking towards the elevator.

Bruce contemplated his butler's words; he had a point but at the same time he couldn't stop or slow down. This city needed him, and he had every intention of continuing his mission.

While he was in his thoughts, an alert came across the Bat computer, there was a robbery at the Gotham City Museum, six thugs, armed, ski masks covering their faces. Without hesitation Bruce suited up and jumped into the Batmobile.

Gotham City Musuem

"Come on, hurry up" one of the thugs said as they snuck through the dark hallways of the museum, they knew it was only a matter of time until Batman showed up and they still had every intention of walking out of here rich.

They rounded the corner until they spotted the exhibit they were looking for, it was a large diamond in a standard glass case, larger than the hope diamond itself, they all knew it'd be worth billions.

"Bingo" the one in front said to himself before handing his gun to one of his associates, "Watch my back while I work" he said, getting ready to retrieve the diamond

The thugs spread out, surveying all possible entry points. One was peaking from around the corner when all of a sudden, before he could react, vanished leaving only his radio and gun behind. This caught the attention of his comrade who investigated the scene, anxiety building up in him as he suspected what was behind this.

He kneeled down to pick up the radio before a figure came from the ceiling and snatched him up, the thug tried to scream but was soon subdued by the caped figure in the shadows.

Back in the room with the diamond, the remaining four thugs kept a look out for anything that might sneak up on them. One let his guard down and was soon knocked out by a Batarang that had come from the side, he fell to the ground causing the remaining three thugs to jump and go on alert.

While they were distracted, they saw an object come rolling into the room, it took them a second to register what it was, a flashbang. Just as they realized what it was, it went off, blinding and deafening everyone in the room. Now taking advantage of the situation, Batman, who was lurking just outside rushed in and quickly subdued the thugs. He gathered the six unconscious thugs together and tied them all together and placed them outside for the police to find, and with that, he quickly made his escape across the rooftops of Gotham city.

However, he didn't get far before he was hit in the side by a taser like weapon. He stumbled across the rooftop, momentarily stunned until he quickly regained his composure.

Quickly standing up and looking in the direction of what had struck him, Batman sees the silhouette of a woman with her arm raised at him. "Who are you? And hiding in the shadows is my thing just so you're aware." he said in a demanding tone

The woman lowered her arm and slowly walked out of the shadows, revealing a curvy redheaded woman in a skintight leather bodysuit. She had two bracelet like weapons on each wrist and two pistols holstered to each hip, she truly was a beautiful woman and Batman had the feeling that she was just as deadly.

"You're a very hard one to catch, Batman, or should we cast formalities aside?" she said, with a hint of a mischievous smirk on her face. Walked closer to him, while he barely moved a muscle. "Agent Natasha Romanoff of SHIELD, you've been on our radar for some time now. Yet no ID, face or even a fingerprint, you're good." she said, admiring the caped crusaders skill and ability.

"What do you want Agent Romanoff?" Batman asked with a hint of suspicion in his voice, he knew about SHIELD, and it didn't surprise him that they took an interest in him.

"It's not so much as me specifically but SHIELD in general, now might not be the best time to talk. There must be a way for us to speak more securely." she said, moving closer to him.

Batman reached into his utility belt and pulled out a small device with the Bat emblem on it, "When you get to a secure location and without being followed, press that tomorrow night and I'll be there." he explained

Natasha looked down at the small device in her hand analyzing it, she looked up in the direction of Batman only to be shocked when he wasn't there.
