magnus' nillious rolled beside his feet and the crowd cheered.

"the winner of this year's bakugan brawl championship!-" the ecstatic announcer yelled into the mic. "DAN KOUZO!"

dan grinned from the battlefield, the roaring cheers from the crowd were like music to his ears. he jumped and ran up to hug drago. "we did it! we won!"

"that's right dan. we did it." the dragon bakugan smiled.

dan looked across the field. his rival was gone.
his smile faded.

magnus walked backstage where china riot ayy and kurin sat on the bleachers. his friends looked up at him sadly.
"hey.. it's a good thing you at least made it to finals." aay smiled trying to lighten the mood. "we can go get some icecream to celebrate. my treat!''

"ooh that sounds like a good idea!" riot joined in.

"i'm craving some chocolate mint icecream right now." kurin said.

"but i didn't win." magnus growled. then he walked off leaving the three confused and a little disappointed.

"jeez, he is such a drama queen." the pigtailed ventus brawler scoffed.

"i know right. he always gets like this when he loses!" kurin said, rolling their eyes.

aay didn't join into their complaining and just crossed his arms, watching as his friend walked off and turned a corner.

magnus sighed and leaned against the wall once he made sure they lost sight of him. he took out his phone, typed something, then strolled off to the bathroom.

meanwhile dan's friends and fans were all over him. he was up on the podium and given a golden trophy by the championships sponsor, benton dusk.

"here's to another stunning victory by los volmos' hero, dan kouzo." benton spoke into the mic, the cheers from the crowd followed after. "any words you'd like to say for the win?"

dan nodded and took the mic. "i would like to thank my friends for helping me train.. i wouldn't be here without them. we spent so many hours brawling and learning all sorts of strategies!.."

lia wynton and shun smiled from the crowd. "yeah! he's talking about us!" ajit yelled causing everyone who heard to laugh.

dan continued his speech making sure to keep it brief and quick and once he was done he hopped the stage joining up with his friends.

"that was seriously awesome, dan! if anyone deserved to win it was you." shun said.

"yeah! those evolutions you mastered with drago.." wynton added. " man, even i couldn't keep up!"

"well. now that we've got a champion in our hands, we should celebrate!'' lia grinned. "how does.. a little trip by the icecream parlor sound?"

"ooh! count me in!" ajit giggled. "i am sooo craving some chocolate mint icecream right now!"

"sure. you guys can go on first though. I'll catch up." dan said as he handed the trophy to wynton asking if he could take it with them.

"uhm, where are you going?" lia asked.

"the restroom. i've been holding it in since my battle with chet!"

"oh wow.. that has been a while." shun laughed.

"you go on then. we'll meet you there." lia said and then waved when dan ran off to the bathroom.

when the red streaked got there he turned around slightly to see if they weren't watching.

he took out his phone, typed something, then pushed the door open and walked in.

once dan was in he met eyes with magnus who was leaning up against the wall, arms crossed with a serious look on his face. almost as if he was waiting for him.

dan gulped and leaned further against the door as the other approached him

and planted a kiss on his cheek.

dan giggled as mag took his hands into his own. "congratulations on your win, danny. i can sense you've gotten stronger ever since our first battle."

"it's all cuz of you french fry. you're a good mentor." dan grinned. "though i bet you went easy on me though just cuz you won against me at regionals."

"I'd never do that. you're just that good of a brawler." magnus chuckled squeezing his hands. "you wanna celebrate? we can rent a movie and eat some chocolate mint icecream."

"is that everyone's favorite icecream flavor or something? everyone i know really likes it." dan laughed.

"it's a good blend of flavors." magnus shrugged. "so is that a yes kouzo?"

"I'd love to but.. my friends are already waiting for me at the icecream place." dan replied and he could tell with the elder's fading smile that he had just let him down. his heart shattered. "..maybe another time?"

magnus shook his head and forced on a smile. it's not the end of the world if his secret boyfriend ran off with his friends anyway. "sure. I'd like that dan."

"i kind of wish you could come with me.."

"me too but, if anyone saw us dating it'd ruin our reputations. we're rivals, it's what everyone wants to see.."

then suddenly an idea popped into dan's head. he had to give himself credit. it's the best thing he'd ever thought of. "and let's keep it like that! we could make up a lie that i forced you to come or something because I found you all mad in the bathroom." dan explained. " you could even make that grumpy face you're so good at the entire time. you know the one where you're all like.." dan then proceeded to imitate magnus' mad face. he crossed his arms and pouted with his brows furrowed.

magnus laughed. "oh shush dan i do not look like that but you know what.. that could actually work.." even he thought it was genius.

"great then! let's go!" dan turned to open the door but the elder stopped him by grabbing his shoulder.

"dan wait."

the brunette turned around. "what?"

"my friends wanted to go to the icecream parlor as well to celebrate me making it to finals but I kinda shunned them away.." magnus explained. "you don't mind if i..?"

"invite them? sure!"

"alright. help me with this text though."

kouzo chuckled and nodded watching as magnus set his purple cased phone in between them and they both figured out a way to invite them without sounding suspicious.
