"Tell me he wasn't fucking hot, you can't" Jade threw her hands up in accusation, almost spilling her water bottle. "He's married"
"So?"
My writing came to a halt and I shot her a glare, she shrugged and bit into a sandwich. "Married dick is still dick""For fucks sake" I scoffed and rubbed a hand over my head, I had a migraine and Jade didn't even come close to helping. I've yet to even touch my yogurt but I hadn't eaten anything since last night. I glanced up at the clock, there was a half hour left of passing time before I have to go back to class, and I needed time to mentally prepare myself for the possibility of carpel tunnel in my right hand.
I had bought two heavy duty, 200 page notebooks solely for the first semester."I need some air, I'll call you later." Jade looked up from her phone, brushing her hair behind her ear and nodding "don't forget about the party, god knows how long it's been since you've went to one".
My silence gave her the idea that I was thinking about it and she playfully smacked my thigh when I passed her to leave the café, cradling my jacket in my arms.
A sigh left my lips the moment I exited the building, a gust of October wind rustling my curls. Leaves tumbled across the large courtyard, a few students lingering around here and there.
It was a perfect day to catch up with myself.I headed towards the common building, which had a high, beautiful archway for its entrance. If Delwan had anything, it was the architectural intelligence it showcased, the buildings were something straight from a victorian novel.
The common building was grand with tall pillars, bricked with brown and dull red and covered in foliage and vine.
I hoisted my bag higher up on my shoulder and took the steps two at a time. Just as I was passing the row of pillars, a head of blonde hair caught my attention, it wouldn't have been anything out of the usual if it weren't for the very obvious make out session she was participating in.
Nice.I'd rather not stick around and creep, so I went to turn into the building, but a flicker of something silver on her finger caught my eye when she lifted a hand to grab his hair and deepen the kiss.
A ring.
I recognized the man she was kissing by the college football jacket, Delwan's large dolphin logo right on the back of it.
When did this become any of my business?
I felt like a total weirdo watching the two of them swap tongues under the shady overhang. A surge of embarrassment rushing through me when the blonde pulled away and met my gaze.
There was something accusatory in her eyes, as if I had somehow done something wrong. As if she had been caught.
I was already walking off in the other direction before any conversation was initiated. I had 15 more minutes to spend before being condemned to 90 minutes of pure concentration, and I refuse to spend it being interrogated for creeping.
Not that I was.
After all, it had no matter to me, so I spent the remainder of my time in the common area, browsing through the non-fiction section.
______
Exhausted was an understatement.
I had taken the risk of using the dorm elevator, which rattled on every few levels but got me to my floor anyways. Even if the elevator did get stuck, a nap wouldn't be so bad.
When I got back to the room and shed my coat and bag, the shower was immediately turned on. A cold shower would wake me up, and maybe something more fulfilling than yogurt.
I mentally assessed what was in the fridge as I stepped into the downpour of water.Neurology was just as complicated as previous students warned about, but I was never one to turn down a challenge, especially if it is something I'm passionate about.
The effects of sitting at a desk for hours had physically taken a toll on me, an ache that reached all the way up to my shoulders.I felt a bit better after my shower, throwing on a pair of running shorts and a tank. There were a few hours left before I had to get ready for the party, so I dropped into my bed and took a well deserved nap session.
_____
My rest was dreamless and I awoke after a good hour. Snatching my phone up and looking at the time.
7:30
Sarah's book bag laid on her bed, opened with papers and books cluttering her sheets.
But her purse was missing from the wall, so she must've went to get something to eat.
The thought of food reminded me of how empty I felt, and that yogurt from earlier never felt more appetizing.
I finished my watermelon off from last night and tossed the rien before attempting to tame the mess of curls on my head.
My phone rang on the counter of the bathroom and I put it on speaker."What color are you wearing?" Jade's voice filled the bathroom and I sighed "I haven't thought about it yet"
"Well think about it soon, because I'm at Target and I need to know your size"
"I don't want you to buy me clothes, I have plenty"
There was slight clicking on her end, and music fading in and out as she spoke "Oh, right. I forgot, hoodies one two and three"
She was right, but I didn't see a problem with wearing hoodies. It's freezing outside anyways.
"Albert, Ben, and Candice. Get it right""Really? Candice?" Candice is her step mother's name.
"Candice dick fit in your mouth"
"Fuck you"
The tone sounded and the screen went black.
_____
Another hour passed before the door to the dorm was shoved open, knocking a pair of my shoes to the side. None other than Jade, and the Target bags in her arms shuffling past the doorway, kicking it closed.
"Alright, get naked. Let me see what I'm working with"
I looked at her from where I stood in the bathroom, frozen in place with a mascara wand in my hand.
Her eyes flickered to my hand, then up to my face before bursting into laughter.
My lips pressed into a tight line and I slowly capped the mascara, pressing a towel to my eyes as she dropped the bags and came into the bathroom, visibly holding back laughter that threatened to boil back up."I...It's the effort that counts"
I sighed and whipped the towel under my eyes "I don't understand how you do this everyday"
"Patience, lots of patience" she took the wand from my hand and sat me down on the toilet, disappearing into the bedroom for a minute before coming back with a hefty bag of makeup.
She got to work on my face with the precision of a welder, her gaze intense and she caked my face up with products I couldn't even pronounce.
"Screw you and your good genetics" I almost didn't catch that and smiled through her aggressive blush application.Soon she had me standing in just a bra and shorts in the middle of the dorm room, making it a point to keep me turned away from any mirrors. She held up shirts against my body before tossing it onto my bed.
"I'm thinking lace" she fetched a lace bralette from one of the paper bags and held it up to my chest. "It's October"
"Lace. With a jacket" she hummed, placing the brown lace bralette down on my bed, aligned with a skirt to match. She had managed to find the short, silk skirt in the depths of my closet, and I wasn't even entirely sure it was mine.
"—maybe don't bring a jacket, so you have an excuse to take Blythe's"
I almost choked, looking up at the dark hard woman as she held up two pairs of heels. She noticed the redness form on my neck, but her eyes lingered a second longer.
"Chill, it's a hoodie—is that a hickey?" She pushed my head to the side, rubbing a finger over the faint bruise. I brushed her hand off "No—I don't know. I woke up with it"She didn't believe me one bit, I could tell by the smirk that lingered on her lips. "Uh huh" she popped open the cap on yet another tube on concealer and dabbed some on my neck with her finger.
"I can smell liars"
"Don't call me a liar"
"Well I'm sure not calling you a truth-er"
