I never expected this from you...

We woke up the next morning. Azrail was hogging the blankets and I was halfway off the bed. I told Azrail to stay put and covered him with plushies and pillows in an attempt to hide him. I went out of my room to search the house to make sure no one was home. I would be dead if mom found out I let a boy stay the night.
The typical Sunday routine was for everyone to go somewhere before 8AM without telling me. I went back to my room and sighed.

"Get your shit and get out." I said firmly

"Are you still mad at me after the night we had?~" Azrail responded in a teasing ton.

I gently hit him on the head. "Don't say it like that. I'm not mad at you, but you need to leave before my family gets home."

He shrugged and gathered his stuff in his bag. "Since they've been leaving you at home why don't you come to the bakery with me? It's more like a café, but you know."

"Are you asking me on a date?"

"No no! No, don't get the wrong idea! Just as friends!"

My heart sank a bit. I thought back to the sports festival. The boy he was talking to. He seemed so happy with that boy...

"That boy you were talking to at the sports festival... Is he your boyfriend?" I sighed.

"Akio? No no! No no no no! He's just a friend! What gave you that idea?" He looked shocked.

"Well, you looked so happy with him. We've been flirting for months, so if you don't like me maybe you're gay?.." I sighed.

"Oh well, I am bisexual, but no I'm not interested on Akio like that."

I sat for a minute to think... Akio... It was a name I heard before. I don't remember where I heard it.

"Tenshi! Tenshi!" Azrail was poking at my cheeks.

I zoned back in and shook my head. "Yeah? Yeah! Platonic date, let's go."

Azrail ruffled my hair and grabbed his bag. We headed out the door and after a 15 minute walk we made it to the bakery. It was a nice one... The walls were a salmon pink with flower themed decor. It made me feel calm. A small old man was behind the counter. The bell on the door rung and he looked up.

"Oh, Azrail. How nice to see you. What brings you here on your day off?"

Azrail grabbed my hand and smiled. "I brought that girl I've been telling you about!"

"Girl? You didn't tell me you had a girlfriend. She's lovely. Have a seat, choose a slice of cake, it's on the house." The old man smiled.

I sighed. "We aren't dating."

The old man shrugged. Azrail picked a slice of cake for the both of us and sat back down in front of me.

"So you work at a bakery?" I stabbed at my cake a few times with my fork, not looking up from the plate.

Azrail chuckled, "Yeah. I've been working here for three years. I've been around since I was about five though. I was payed, but not considered an official employee because of child labor laws."

I looked up. "Five? When did your quirk come in? It doesn't seem suited for a job like this."

"My quirk came in a couple months before I started working here. It's kind of a long story, I'll tell you some other time." He took a bite of his cake and nodded at mine as a way to tell me to eat it, and I did.

We sat in silence. It was a nice silence until it was interrupted. A car screeched to a halt outside. It was the family car... mom stepped out of it. She burst into the bakery and screamed.

"Tenshi Akuma, how dare you leave the house without permission! You are lucky that I left you with cooked food in the house! With a boy too! You should be more like your brother!" Mom pulled my wing. She moved me to get a grip on my arm... and when she pulled my wing it snapped.

I screamed and started crying, and just like that my mom was on the ground. I looked up at Azrail who looked terrified. The old man had locked the door so my dad and brother couldn't get in. I was breathing heavily... my wing hurt. I was visibly injured. My wing looked wrong.

"Azrail?..." I sniffled.

"It's okay. You're okay now. You're safe. It's fine." He just repeated those sentences and pulled me into a hug.

"Azrail... Did you kill my mom?..." I teared up more and just sat there in shock. I hated my mom, but she was still my mom.

"I just knocked her out. I don't want you going home with your family. Please stay with me for a couple days," He sighed.

"I'm sorry, but I can't do that," I shook my head and wiped my tears.

I picked my mom up to take her back out to the car. I put her in and got in the backseat.

"Dad, can you wrap my wing when we get home?..." I whispered

"Did Aoi dislocate it again?" Dad sighed.

I teared up again, "No, I think she broke it this time... I heard it crack and I can't move it at all... It's so painful..."

Dad nodded. "When Aoi is asleep at home I'll take you to the hospital. As for that little friend of yours-"

"Please don't call the police on him! He's a good person, I swear!" I sobbed, "Please, he was just protecting me!"

"I know. I was going to say he's brave. He knocked your mother out in a public place with very little hesitation. His first instict was to protect you, so you best protect him too."

I nodded.

When we got home dad put mom in their bed and went to Natsu.

"A word about me taking your sister to the hospital or that boy knocking Aoi out and I'll find that boy and you'll be next."

"Y-yes sir." Natsu stuttered.

Dad helped me back into the car and we drove off to the hospital. I got an X-ray and my wing was broken. I got a cast to keep it in place.
I didn't sleep that night... I didn't feel safe without Azrail.
