Where did you go?...

It was another day now. A school day. I walked to school as usual, but Azrail wasn't there. On my way I checked each alley I passed, every corner, any place he could be hiding. I texted and called, but no response. I could feel my heart beating faster. I was scared, where was he? He'd never missed a day of school or an opportunity to bother me.
I dropped my bag and ran. I memorized the route to his house after walking all the way home with him a couple times. If he wasn't on his way to school he had to be at home. Eventually I made it to his apartment. I didn't even knock. Azrail's door was unlocked, but he didn't seem to be there.

"Mrs.Kaji? Mr.Kaji?" I yelled. Maybe if Azrail wasn't home his parents would be.

"I live alone..." I heard Azrail's voice from a room down a small hallway.

I ran down the hall and opened the door that I heard his voice coming from. Sure enough he was there, sitting in his bed... crying. I jumped on him to hug him.

"What's wrong? Why are you crying? Why didn't you walk with me today?" I was speaking so fast I stumbled over my words.

Azrail didn't speak. He just held me tight and nuzzled into my neck. He was scared... Was it because of my wing?

"Azrail, I'm okay." I sighed as I Pet his head.

"I know, and I'm glad you are... but I could've killed your mom..." He sniffled.

"Honestly, that would've been preferred," I chuckled, "Don't worry, dad won't call the cops. You're safe too, so why don't we get to school together like usual?"

Azrail wiped his eyes and nodded. I waited in the living room while he got dressed, and when he finished we left. I held his hand all the way until we reached his classroom, and then I walked to mine.

"Tenshiiii! You're lateee!" Denki whined. He shook my chair when I sat down.

"I was helping a friend. Cut it out." I sighed.

Denki kept shaking my chair until Mr.Aizawa entered the classroom. It was a training day. After Aizawa explained the lesson we got into out hero costumes. Mine was a simple one. A light blue fireproof two piece. It looked almost like a sportswear set, but with more detail.
We went onto the field today, and since my wing was broken I was expected to focus more on the fire aspect of my quirk. I went up against Bakugo and Todoroki for my combat training. Todoroki still only used his ice, so the purpose of the pairing was to put my quirk up against both other heat based quirks and cold based quirks. I won against Todoroki, but Bakugo kept blowing me into walls. I was able to beat him during the sports festival, so I was disappointed when I couldn't even make a scratch on him. After my combat rounds were over, I fell asleep. When everyone else was done I was woken up. We were onto normal-ish gym activities. I came second to Bakugo.
Soon the school day was over. I waited at the school's gate for Azrail, and we walked home together. I held his hand again. He was smiling, but I could still tell he was upset. We split up at the alley he went through, and I was dreading opening my front door alone.
I slowly opened the door when I got home, and just as I expected mom was on the couch.
She immediately looked to the door when opened it. No matter how quiet I was, she always knew when I got home. I sighed and waited for the yelling to come.

"Take that damn wrap off your wing! I did not hurt you that badly! You're always so overdramatic, Natsu would never act this attention seeking!" Mom yelled.

I teared up and started shaking. I didn't want to deal with this today. I sniffled and heard a thud. Dad was standing over mom, facepalming.

"I don't understand why Aoi gives you so much shit. She raised a lazy ass son that she's so proud of when you're out here training to be a hero at the age of 16," Dad sighed.

I wiped my tears and nodded. Dad patted me on the head and I went up to my room. I was so tired. It had been such a long week and it was only Monday. Azrail texted me, but I was too tired to move. I couldn't respond, but I would call him in the morning. I fell asleep.

A few months of hell had passed, but Azrail was happy again. His smile was enough to make everything better. Dad was taking me to the doctor for a check up on my wing, Azrail came with us too. Azrail held my hand while the doctors poked and prodded at my wings to make sure everything was okay. Thankfully my wings were finally healed. We left and dad dropped me and Azrail off at the bakery. We had another platonic date, one that thankfully wasn't interrupted this time. We sat at one of the outside tables and had chocolate cake with coffee. It was nice. Azrail walked me home afterwards... It was already night time, so mom yelling at me wasn't a concern. I went to bed peacefully that night, and all was well until I remembered. The nightmares reminded me. Nothing was okay, I still had to reach my goal.
