the bus ride to the competition, sheer talent, was tense and awkward. us kids were annoyed with joanne for taking time away from the rehearsal and leaving us unprepared, the moms were mad at tricia and joanne, ann was inches from tears, and everyone was anxious for the competition. gianina was the only one who seemed unperturbed, typing away on her phone while i stared out the window next to her. finally, i leaned over to see her typing what seemed like an essay in her notes app. she shifted the phone away from me immediately, wiggling her eyebrows. "don't be a snoop. nobody gets to see gia's goss. only gia."

i raised an eyebrow. "gia's goss?"

she laughed. "i know it sounds ridiculous, but it's my way to document all the drama that goes on in my life before other people twist it. like, i'm typing out all the fights between the moms that i remember, just so i can check if the producers edit things and change the stories to make different people look like the villains. goss is short for gossip."

"that's smart, actually." i said. "but why can't anyone else see it? i mean, us kids are all on the same page for now."

"yeah, for now. there will be fights between us, willow, trust me. not you and me, obviously, because you're one of my faves and i love you."

i smiled at that, squeezing her hand. "you're one of mine, too."

"usually it's easy with all of us, but sometimes i could cut through the tension with a butter knife, you know what i mean?" gianina continued. "parts of these notes contain very small behavioral patterns between some members of the team that show me what they think of each other, and if it got leaked, it would totally divide us. plus, if anyone else sees it and has a different perspective from what i wrote, it might change my perspective on it and my opinion. i like to stand by my opinions no matter what."

"you're really smart, has anyone told you that, gi?"

"all the time." she tossed her hair and smiled at me sarcastically. "i'm quite the genius."

"i can believe it. can you show me, like, one thing? please? i won't say anything, i swear."

she scrolled through until she reached a recount of her mom's fight with abby the other day. she'd captured everything accurately, offering an unbiased point of view on the argument, just like a journalist would. something caught my eye at the bottom, though.

during joanne and abby's conversation, willow and brady were seen talking to each other, with willow sitting on the mat due to her injury. it seemed as though she was comforting him, with her holding his hand for a second and trying to assure him of something. he was blushing the whole time. i couldn't hear anything, as i was closer to joanne.

"he was blushing?" i whispered to gia.

"are you kidding? he always blushes near you. you didn't notice?"

"no, i don't think so..."

"that boy would do anything for you, wills. i can tell. what were you guys talking about?"

my brain chose to ignore the what were you guys talking about and remained stuck on that boy would do anything for you. including break my ankle, but oh well. i glanced at brady, who was bobbing his head to the music in his airpods and staring out the window. i grinned at him, even though i knew he couldn't see me, and turned back to gia, who was watching me carefully. she typed something in her notes app that i didn't see, shut the phone off, and changed the subject.

eventually, we both drifted off, heads propped up against each other. my second to last thought before i fell asleep was, i love gia. i really think i can trust her. she's always real with me, even though that goss thing is questionable. the last thing i thought before i fell asleep was, if what she said was true, i hope he knows i'd do just about anything for him too.

sorry for the short chapter, but i hope that you enjoyed this! :)
