"Wake up the guys."
The two of them woke up the four sleeping teens.
"Guys, wake up!" Sara said quietly.
Robbie groaned and mumbled, "what time is it?"
"It's six!"
He suddenly shot up and looked at the two of us. He remained silent for a second before randomly saying, "I'm up."
They chuckled and woke the others. MaKayla and Sara pulled out a couple snacks- granola bars, trail mix, jerky and dried fruits- and passed them around. After their quick breakfast, they carefully climbed down the mountain of rocks. Once they reached the bottom, they began their trek back to the RV.
Half an hour later, a warm, golden glow cast over them. They turned to see the sun as it rose, the light hitting the water and turning the dark blue waters to liquid gold. It was a beautiful sight.
The six were only distracted for a moment before they continued on. Sara pulled out a map and the others leaned in to look at it.
"We should only have 2 or 3 miles until we reach the main trail. Then, it should only be a few miles after that."
"Good," Robbie said, "cause after that nights sleep, walking is painful." He snapped his fingers and Sara turned around, the two pointing awkward finger guns at each other.
The group laughed and Sara turned back around. It was so peaceful that morning, which was odd in comparison to the night they had. Birds were singing their songs, squirrels rushed up trees with acorns in their mouths, and a few rabbits poked out of their burrows to greet the morning. A soft breeze blew through the trees, lightly shaking the branches and picking up leaves. It seemed perfect.
Bang!
A branch snapped above them and crashed right next to MaKayla. She screamed and they all bolted. No one even looked back to see who it was, because who else could it be other than the man who's been attacking them the entire week?
They ran off the trail, hoping they could lose him easier. They ran for a while until they reached another mountainside embedded with rocks. They started running along the side until Liana heard something that worried her, as well as the others. Running water.
They began to climb the rocks, hoping they could avoid what they believed was a large river. Well, it was a large body of water, alright. Just not quite a river. It was more like a waterfall or a river running down a very steep mountain. Panicking, Sara scrambled up the side of the waterfall, carefully climbing the rocks along the edge. The others slowly followed, unsure of what to do.
"Sara," Ryan called up, "this seems like a bad move!"
"I know!"
"Then why are we-"
Bang!
A nearby rock cracked and the tree next to it practically exploded, bark and twigs flying towards them.
"Move! Move! Move!" Apollo yelled, quickening the pace.
Sara grabbed a tree branch and looked down to see that the man was not only climbing, but he was staying to their left. Soon, he'd technically have them cornered. She looked from him to her friends, then the raging waters. She took a deep breath and leaned down to MaKayla.
"This might be a terrible idea, but it's our only shot."
And with that, she began to climb across the waterfall. Her friends saw and began to yell for her to stop.
"Are you crazy?" Liana shouted, griping a root tightly.
"Yes!" Was all the reply she got as Sara stepped onto a larger rock, a long, thick tree root in one hand and a firm, strong tree branch in the other.
