Warning! Cringe
SINCE WHEN COULD HE SING?!
Percy POV
I was hanging out with Grover. I missed him. I hadn't seen him in a while so when he came back after a few months, I was exited.
We were in my cabin, drawing.
Yep, drawing. Crazy right?
Well, we just wanted to have some fun! and this was normal.
Right?
Anyhow, I finished my drawing and beamed at it. This was my best work yet! I wiped of the sweat on my forehead (ignoring how the heck it got there- actually it was probably because of the heat) and picked it of the floor. I turned around and eagerly looked at Grover.
"Hey Grover! look at this!"
It was a crayon drawing of Camp and three amazingly drawn stick figures infront of it. Me, Grover and Annabeth. Oh wait- Grover, Annabeth and I. Looks like Annabeth taught me something. Anyway, I was in blue, Annie in yellow and grover in green. And so no one could get confused (idk how they would be able to, but just in case), I wrote their names on top. We all were standing in the beach. The drawing was pretty good if I do say so myself.
Grover looked at it and his expression changed into a surprized look and then 'trying hard not to laugh' look.
"its great!" Grover said in a tone that was 15 tones higher than his usual one. He made a weird noise as if choking and then blinked away tears in his eyes.
"thank you!" I said beaming. I placed it back on the ground and looked at the window. Now, I'm not stupid. I knew it wasn't as good as Piccaso's and I knew that even 6 year olds could draw a better picture than me. But I'm happy Grover tried to pretend it was good. I knew he was trying, because lets be honest, Grover is a really bad lier.
"Ima go get some water" I said and internally laughed at the irony. Grover found it funny too and laughed externally
I went to the window to get my Nemo themed water bottle (I freakin love it) and bumped into an item. I knew it was going to fall so i covered my ears but still heard the bang and sounds like strings being played.
I uncovered my ears and stared at it, picking up my bottle, unscrewing it and taking a sip of water.
Meanwhile Grover had heard this noise and turned to look at me. He then looked down and recognition flashed in his eyes
"Hey! is that your old guitar? It's been so long since you played it!" He said, excitedly at first, wistful at the end.
I continued to look at it for a few seconds, then picked it and stood up. I brushed the dust off my dusty case and opened it. Inside was a standard, semi-acoustic guitar, beige in colour.
It had different stickers on it from when I used to play it. Grover knew of this as he was my roommate in Yancy and I played it multiple times infront of Grover and he used to stop everything and come listen. It was one of the most calming things I used to do as I didn't play many fast songs.
"Yeah..." i said finally, answering both of Grover's questions. I was still looking at it, thinking about a time where we didn't have to worry about gods, monsters, deaths and many others.
I turned to look at Grover, who was still looking at me. I took a deep breath and asked in a low voice, "You want me to play?"
His eyes lit up like it was christmas morning and beamed at me. "yes!"
TRANSITION
I was sitting on the lower bunk of one of the bunk beds, tuning the guitar. Grover was waiting on the floor for me to finish tuning. After I did, we did some casual conversation as I fixed the strap. Once I did, I asked him, "what song should i sing?"
Grover frowned and asked me, "any song?"
"...Yeah?" I asked uncertainly, not understanding his question. My eyes widened as I realized his question. "Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, yeah any song, I'll just make up the chords don't worry about it, any song"
"Ok, um..... how about you broke me first?"
I looked at him, surprised at the sad song and how he knew it. "really?"
"its a nice song!"
"Yeah, no I agree but a sad song? I like the song too."
I played the chords that i thought would match, changing it up if it didn't.
Grover continued talking while all of this was happening "you do? Great! I don't need to give you the tune or the lyrics now. It would have taken so much time"
Grover said relieved. I chuckled and then realized something. "Oh wait, how will you know what part I'm playing?"
"Oh right I didn't think about that"
I laughed. I put my hand on my guitar and thought. "I could sing, like 'the old times'" I said the last part in a raspy voice, like I was an old man talking to his grandchildren.
"haha, yeah go ahead!"
-------------------------------------------------------TRANSITION--------------------------------------------------------
I figured out the chords and started playing the song.
I took a deep breath and started singing. After a few words, I closed my eyes and lost myself in the song. At first I was a bit nervous since I hadn't sang for so long, but after a while I just lost myself in the song. I really liked the song.
Finally, I belted out the last part, which was the chorus.
Now suddenly you're asking for it back
Could you tell me, where'd you get the nerve?
Yeah, you could say you miss all that we had
But I don't really care how bad it hurts
When you broke me first
You broke me first
(You broke me first)
You broke me first.I finished and opened my eyes, honestly a bit scared. I was greeted by a mobile phone in the place of Grovers head. After a second, I realized what just happened.
"Hey! You recorded me!" I huffed, pretending to be angry.
Grover laughed and put his phone down. "Now I can show everyone what you sound like! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!"
