TW: Death & discriminationIt all began in China, in Qingqing City. There was news that a baby that gave off light was born. Ever since then, superpowers were discovered in various places, and time passed without the cause being identified.
Before we knew it, the supernatural became the normal, and dreams became the reality. The world has become a superhero society, and about 80% of the world's population now has some kind of special trait.
In this world swirling with chaos, the professions that everyone dreamed about came into the limelight.
That profession being, a hero.
Along with the superpowers there was an explosive increase in crime. As the country was stuck in the slow progress of drastic law reforms, courageous people started preforming heroic acts from out of comic books.
Guarding against superpowers and defending against evil. Heroes were soon accepted by the public, and it was established as an official position.
Based on their performance they are paid by the government and gain renown among the masses.
The world that we live in sounds really cool, right? But not everything is as simple as it sounds like. The world is not just black and white.
Well, it all starts with me (not really). Trafalgar D. Water Y/N.
I was born with what is called "Hyperthymesia". Hyperthymesia is an uncommon ability which allows me to spontaneously recall with a great amount of detail of any memory, special events and dates. So in simpler words, I have a great memory.
The majority of people can re-call their first memory at the young age of two and a half years old, not all people though. I can re-call mine when I was still in my mother's stomach.
I remember the mid-wife cleaning me with a towel to get the vernix off of me. The warm-ish air of the hospital and of course them talking to my mother, though I didn't understand what they were saying. I didn't understand Japanese back then.
I remember when I first open my eyes, I couldn't see shit. Babies eyesight is not good. Though through the blurriness I was able to make out the red t-shirt my father wore.
3 years later
"Mama, papa." You cried out to them, slamming your chubby hands and arms onto the wooden table, that action knocked over your bowl of mush. It quickly spilt onto the food.
The middle-aged man who was at the table could only sigh as he looked at his daughter. He walked over to you and spoke calmly to you. "Honey, you can't keep doing this. You need to eat to get strong."
He gently pulled you into his hold, and rubbed soft little circles on your back. Slowly but surly keeping your sniffles and sobs down. The man had the same skin colour as you, though patches of white were forming on it, very quickly may you add.
The woman who you called mama, also had the same problem with her own skin. Both knew what was going to happen to them. Though before it happened they wanted their daughter to be safe in someone's capable hands, someone who would not give her up.
A sudden crash came from upstairs, alerting your father. He quickly rushed to your cradle and laid you down gently. As soon as the contact of your father left, the sobs only grew louder as your father left and rushed up the stairs.
You could remember a harsh gasp leaving your father's mouth, and your mother's name in a soft and hesitant way also leaving your father's mouth.
You would later on realise that your mother had died. Died from a disease called, 'The White Lead disease' The White Lead disease is a non-curable illness passed through generations of people whos ancestors lived in Fleavance back in the old-old days, way before quirks were around. They worked to close to the white lead, which slowly but surely poisoned them.
