The soft light of the moon illuminated the room, where Ananya was lying wide awake. Slowly turning her face to the right she saw the bed empty. They didn't consummate the marriage, instead her husband removed each piece of her jewellery sensually and touched her from above her poshak, that she was made to wear by her mother-in-law as a suhaag raat attire. Before they could, or rather, he could move forward, he got a call asking him to join for an immediate meeting with business delegates. So now he was in his personal library and she was lying alone imagining the 180° rough terrain turn.
She was practically sold for some thirty crores deal, to Rudraveer Singh Shekhawat, which was some 30 rupees for him.
Her thoughts drifted back to when she was called by her Baba to his study for the first time. She was always fascinated by her Baba's study. He studied the medical cases, researched for his publications on medico, she has seen several of her students visiting her Baba and entering the room in order to discuss their thesis paper. Now she finally could get in.
She was numbed by the fact that her Baba has arranged her wedding in the family of the Shekhawat's who didn't like her much, owing to the fact that her mother left her on the doorstep and took his brother, who was one of the twin, the first babies of her Maa and Baba. Later, her Maa's dead body in a pathetic state was discovered in a accident and her brother's body wasn't discovered. The little baby of two days was blamed for it, and hated by the most members of the family. Her kakai(uncle) loved her, but he settled to Delhi with his family just to make sure his wife and daughter are away from negativity, his wife being Ananya's Maa's sister. Her dadubahi loved her to bits, who was now in coma for the past eight years, adding to the hatred and loathe.
Marrying her off for a thirty crore deal made herself question her worth, however, she agreed. She has always been doing that. If not her Baba, the other family members left no chance to make her believe that she was indebted to them and that she should repay it by any means. This marriage was it.
She was aware of Rudraveer's intention regarding her. He hated her. Why? Because she tried to help her crush in revealing the true colours of Rudraveer Pratap Singh Shekhawat, and barged into his territory. While, her crush used her for his need, and then married her step sister. Not that he knew about her tiny miny crush. All this didn't matter now. That crush was crushed long back. Coming back, when Rudraveer came to know about it, he made her life a hell, so much so that, he made her dance on glass, and later tended her wounds.
She couldn't understand him. Sure she knew him well, the owner of RVS Group of Industries. Multi billionaire, or what they say. He has surpassed even those. In short, he is rich. Richer than Richie Rich. He was the Rana of his village, that was operated by men appointed by him. Some 50 villages were under him. She had been to his coronation ceremony. It was not exactly what she saw on the historical fiction daily shows. It was extra extravagant, the royalty along with the technology. Hawan, Snaan, Raj Tilak, and Ballroom dance party. How she wished to be the Cinderella and dance with the prince. Instead she got herself a beast, that wasn't even cursed nor did he have a good heart. And, what she has come to know during her research or more than investigation was that he was associated with the underworld. He wasn't a Mafia, but he had connections and a big hand in smuggling illegal weapons. She was terrified upon her discovery. And to add petrol to the fire she was the eye witness to one such torture, inflicted by her husband, when he wasn't her husband. She watched him cutting the tongue of the person and giving it to his German Shepherd who devoured the piece of flesh as if he's having a party. She then saw him cutting his flesh in pieces and feeding it to his American Pitbull. Those two were his pet dogs that he kept open in his pent house, they were another defination of evil just like their master. What terrified her more was the person was in his senses and begging for his life, and he was left like that, in the dirty without any medication. She saw him rotting to death. She saw him crying for his life initially, then begging for his death, yet, not getting it. All this because, he dared to double cross Rudraveer.
And how does she know that? Well, she had disguised herself as an employee of RVS Group and accompanied Rudraveer everywhere he went to as his assistant.
She knew everything about him, yet she knew nothing. She knew he was heartless yet she couldn't figure out why her heart gets restless at the thought of him getting hurt. She literally took a poisonous pin on herself for him, when rivals tried to attack him, saved him from the fire when she could easily run away and what not. It wasn't like she wasn't aware of girls falling for red flag grey man, she had her classmates gushing about them, fantasizing Michelle Morone, after watching 365 Dni, but, she was also aware that reading abuse and watching abuse, being a part of it was different. She knew those book boyfriends of her had their partner that brought them to the right track. She knew and was well aware of the difference between fiction and reality.
She was afraid of her husband, Rudraveer, who she was asked to call as Ranasa.
Her thoughts halted and she quickly closed her eyes upon hearing the door opening. Her husband has returned, and she didn't want to lose her virginity at this hour, to him was silently scratched because she had no other way. She felt a big palm touching her hip length hair, softly, as if they are some priced jewels of her in-laws. Yes, that's what her in-laws business was. Precious stones and metals, they had several mines across the world. It was a small jewellery shop started by her grandfather-in-law that was taken forward by her uncle-in-law, and then extended by her father-in-law into a full fledged company of jewelleries and later extending it to mines, after retiring voluntarily from the Indian Army, owing to his health conditions. Rudraveer had different business, and had no link with his family business.
Well, financially, Ananya was in a win win situation, with her rich in-laws and a 10× rich husband. If only she desired wealth.
"Good night Meri Ranisa. Srif meri.", Rudraveer said in his husky voice near her ear that successful gave her goosebumps and accelerated her heartbeat in fear. Not her fault, she is a shy girl, she couldn't even watch the scenes of Prem and Preeti from Hum Saath Saath Hain without closing her eyes.
As if waiting for his good night, Ananya drifted back to sleep with the thoughts going back to the box in her mind, and locking themselves in until the next time.
