Note from writer:

Hello, I've decided to write about one of my favourite video games Dying Light. I absolutely cherished the game and the characters and wanted to have a go at writing my own plot  that takes a slightly different direction.

I was heartbroken when most of the main characters died and I felt like we didn't get as much character development as I would have wished. Although I do really think the characters dying made the story so much more impactful I really wish it didn't end that way, therefore I have written a story that can tell another side.

I am not the best writer and I tend to come up with stories through dreams or movie like plots. Therefore there's a lot of dialogue from characters. I have tried my best to explain my vision through the words I have.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy.

I will be adding a new part every other day so stay tuned :)

Chapter 1 Descent into Harran

"HUD activated. Commence briefing." A woman's voice said through the radio, making Crane spring to life.

"Approaching Harran." The pilot announced from the cockpit, as the turbulence started to kick in. The metal plane shook briefly from side to side as they approached the Turkish city below.

"Data on the subject:" The woman's voice continued. "Kadir Suleiman - A local figure hired to maintain order after the outbreak. His brother Hassan died in a disease-related incident before we were able to evacuate him."

A picture of this so-called 'Kadir Suleiman' appeared on the screen in front of Crane. He quickly memorised the face of the man before the voice continued to speak.

"Suleiman blamed the GRE for Hassan's death. He stole a highly sensitive file which became his bargaining chip against the GRE. With instructions to publicize it if anything happened to him."

So this is the guy he had to find? Another person who has beef with the GRE? Typical. Crane thought to himself.

"Data on the subject. The stolen file. It details the incomplete process of synthesizing a cure for the virus. If implemented in its current state, the produced substance may be extremely toxic." The woman explained.

Crane understood the assignment. This file was important and he had to retrieve it, no matter what. It could hold the key to the potential cure and not only that, if it somehow got out before he could get it, who knows what would happen?

"Jump in 10 seconds!" The pilot interrupted, shouting over the roar of the engines.

Crane unbuckled his seatbelt and moved to the back of the plane as the metal door opened up.

"Now!" The pilot called. Crane took a few steps back before running to the exit and jumping into the sky. As he began to descend, the woman's dull tone continued to give him instructions.

"The file also contains a full description of the virion structure. Any attempt to use it would result in countless lives lost. It must be recovered. Further information: Current status - Suleiman sent the file to an associate unknown to us, with instructions to publicize it at his command, at any time. To counter that, we instituted a city-wide communication jam; preventing him from publicizing the file."

Crane broke through the final layer of clouds, revealing the isolated city below him.

He quickly tugged the chord by his shoulder, releasing a white parachute from his back and slowing his fall to the ground.
