"You're late." Kim grumbled at Jack, as he entered the dojo, which the rest of the group had been decorating for hours.
"For what?" questioned the boy nonchalantly.
"Rudy's suprise birthday party, remember? The one he's been planning for himself for two weeks." answered Eddie passing by grumpily.
"Yeah, well, that eliminates the 'surprise' part." breathed Max, before turning to the others. "And if we don't finish the preparations there won't be any 'party' either."
"Unfortunately we would be about- What, like? 50? Years late prevent the 'birthday'." grumpled Eddie, before continuing to decorating the dojo, when suddenly the lights turned off and Rudy's muffled voice sounded from hallway to the changing rooms.
"He's coming."
The group, knowing very well that it was their sensei himself warning them, all gathered to the middle of the room looking annoyed, Jack, Eddie and Milton sitting on a tower of gym mattresses, while Kim, Max and Jerry stood opposite from them, waiting for the adult to officially enter the room.
Once he had walked seemingly cluelessly through the door and turned on the light switch, everyone yelled 'surprise' in unison in the most unenthusiastic tone humanly possible, which, of course, went unnoticed by Rudy and his enormous ego, who was currently stumbling with his palm on his chest, mouth wide open. He looked like they had caused him a heart attack. In the most dramatic manner man has ever seen.
"How did you know it was my birthday? Are you guys trying to kill me?" he gasped before pulling out a birthday hat shaped like a cake and putting it on his head. "You'd better not have brought gifts... But if you did, now would be the time to load me up."
Milton was walking towards his locker to pick up his gift for Rudy, when Jack rushed towards him, calling for him anxiously.
"Hey, man, I don't have anything. Can I get in on your gift, please?"
"Absolutely not." clarified the redhead as he opened the locker, pulling out the wrapped gift. "I put a lot of time, thought and effort into this." He then joined the others around Rudy, giving him the gift. "This is from Jerry, Eddie and me."
Opening the box, the sensei reached into it and pulled out a singular toilet paper roll, which looked... A peculiar choice for a gift, yet Rudy seemed thrilled to hold it in his hands.
"Oh, joke-a-day toilet paper. Get out!" exclaimed Rudy playfully, which made Kim, Jack and Max glance at each other, before shrugging. "My cousin had this at his house. I literally laughed myself off the bowl. Thank you, guys." He, then, looked up at where the other the were standing and approached them slowly.
"Now I don't want to turn this whole gift thing into a competition, but Kim, Max, it's time to top that gift."
Max and Kim turned to each other grinning widely as the blonde swiftly grabbed the other girl's hand and softly pulled her towards counter with all the dojo's award cups to get their gift.
