The Date

Chapter 2-

*welcome to white space, you have been living here for as long as you can remember*

Wow, here I am again. I look around (nothing is different). I go up to Mewo, she meows, nothing happens. There is no way out, I take out my dull, silver knife and stab myself.

My eyes slowly open to the sunlight entering my window, I sit up in my bed (no thoughts). I kick my legs out from under the covers and stand up, I fix my blanket and stretch my arms up. I look to the other side of the room, Maris' bed is empty (she has a date with Hero today). There is a note on my nightstand "Hey Sunny, I won't be back for a little bit, please do the dishes and clean up the bathroom. Tell Mari she has to clean the living room and rake the backyard, if the lawnmower ever starts to work again she has to mow the lawn too. Love you, please answer my calls." I sigh, I don't feel like doing these so I wont.

I leave my room and head to the bathroom. I often find myself staring at myself in the mirror with a straight face. I turn on the fauset, dip down, and wash my face with cold water. I grabbed my toothbrush and put 2 dots of toothpaste on it. I start brushing my teeth, brush, spit, brush, spit, rince. I fix my hair then head down to the kitchen.

I open the fridge (it's empty), I open the cabinet closest to the fridge (the only things left are bread, peanut butter, canned chicken noodle soup) I can't make a sandwich, we don't have jelly... I take a piece of bread and put it in my mouth, somebody knocks on the door. I walk out of the kitchen to the door and open it a smidge to see who it is, as I open it I see Kels' face peeping inside. I'm shocked to see him here but I open the door wider to let him in, he's alone, "Hey Sunny, our siblings are out on dates so I thought we could go on a best friends date!" before I could even decide he grabs my hand and pulls me out slamming the door behind me.

Kel is dragging me down the sidewalk to the fountain jumping over each crack (he firmly believes in "step on the crack and you break your mothers back"). We make it to the fountain, he forces me to sit down, "Stay, don't go anywhere." He runs off still jumping over every single crack. I'm sitting on the bench, swinging my legs, watching as the fountain pours out the top into the bottom, it glistens. I dig in my pocket for a penny, there isn't one, I don't know why I thought there would be (not that I have a wish anyways).

I look around hoping to spot Mari or Hero, instead I see Kel rushing back to me. He hands me a little gift bag, I look at him confused (I don't have a gift to give back, that sucks) "Open it, Hero told me that when I ever go on a date with somebody I love to give them a gift!" "You're my best friend Sunny, of course I love you." (odd, but sweet) I open the bag and it's a paper cut out of a poorly drawn... Me? "Don't you love it?" I look at him and nod yes, I put it back in the bag and I bow my head down to say thank you.

I put the bag down and wait for Kel to say something, he stares at me. My eyes start to wander off, I see people walking in and out of the market, I see kids playing. I can see Kel slowly getting closer to me out of the corner of my eye, I feel something tap my opposite shoulder, it's Kels hand. Kels arm is around me, my body stiffens up. "So whatcha wanna do? I heard Mari and Hero bake together, wanna go back to my house?" I think about it, I give him one nod. I stand up with my gift in hand and start walking, he rushes to catch up. On the way to Kels house I also see Hero and Mari heading that way as well.

Kel takes longer to see them because he is looking at the ground, he finally looks up and sees the two walking. "HERO!" Kel shouts as loud as he possibly can (he didn't have to yell so loud, Hero or Mari would have heard it either way). Hero and Mari calmly holding hands walking at a slow pace jump at the noise of Kels' scream. Kel left me to bother them, I kept my pace (no point in running).

Inside Hero n Kels house (I was in last, It's okay, Hero never rushed me), I'm not really in reality right now, I'm spaced out into the nothingness, I can still hear (just barely). Kel is telling Hero about our date, Mari is in the kitchen (sounds like bowls and pans clanging onto the counter), maybe we are making cookies together. (I am sitting on the couch waiting, Mari and Hero are in the kitchen with- where did Kel go?) I get myself back together and observe once again. Mari is laughing, Hero has a big cheesy smile on his face (he is turning pink) "Wanna show me your cute-face pretty boy?" Hero turns away from Mari as soon as he hears that, he's no longer pink but bright red. He moves his hands in front of his face and looks to the ground. "Aww poor baby" Mari proceeds to tease him, she grabs his arm and forces him back around to face her. It takes a bit of strength but Mari gets Heros hands off of his face (he is still looking down), she cups his face in her hands and gently raises his head. She smiles lighty and kisses him. How sweet (it's cute, it's like something off of a movie).

I get up to start making cookies, Kel is sitting on the floor. Mari passes us a bowl to our side and instructs us through the entire thing. "Take one cup of softened butter and 3/4 cup of sugar, place it in your bowl and beat it together." (Mari should have a cooking show) we follow her lead, Hero does too (Mari is standing behind him hugging him swaying back and forth). "In another bowl mix together 2 and 1/4 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt." (I follow, flower, baking soda, salt, mix) Kel is just watching me, it's okay, I'm scared he would confuse the salt with the sugar and vice versa. "Now back to the bowl you put the butter in." I switch bowls once again, "Crack an egg into the bowl and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract, now mix it together and slowly incorporate the dry mix." I hand Kel the whisk so I can pour the dry mix into the other bowl, I don't want him to spill the majority of what we have on the floor. "Wow, good job! You guys are following along well. Kel please mix that a bit slower, don't want it to fly out the bowl now do we?" That was obviously a rhetorical question, we don't want our mix to end up outside of the bowl, Kel didn't get that though because he responded anyways "No ma'am!" He said that with the kind of order somebody would say sir yes sir. "Now my favorite part, adding the chocolate chips! Just add the whole bag, and for a little extra something sprinkle a bit of cinnamon." Kel adds the chocolate chips and cinnamon, I mix.

My arm hurts, I'm so tired, my mixing is getting weaker. (Kel can tell) He takes the whisk and continues on for me. Big releaf. Mari and Hero switched as well, Mari is mixing and Hero is leaning on the counter. (Heros eyes are filled with love as he stares at my sister, it's not in a creepy way more of him adoring her, cherishing her, loving her, Mari is too busy mixing for her to notice Hero). Hero looks at us and smiles approvingly.

We form the cookies and put them in the oven. Everybody walks to the couch and sits down, me and kel are on the floor with a big blanket. They turn on a movie but I start to doze off.

The sound of an oven alarm forces me awake, I can't really see my eyes are still tired. (Kel is asleep on my shoulder). Mari is getting the cookies out of the oven and Hero is talking to her about college. I slowly wait for my body to fully wake and I move Kels head to the couch to keep him comfortable. I stand up and wobble to the counter and smell the delicious cookies. (I don't think Hero noticed me) "Don't touch them." Mari said, still looking at the oven, she just knows I'm there. That spooks Hero cause he sees me once Mari made that remark to me trying to take a cookie. "Oh yeah they need to cool down." Hero agrees with Mari, how much longer till they cool? I just want a cookie. I peek at the time (8:30), it's getting pretty late. I go back to the floor by the couch and look at the TV. I'm not watching the movie (it's boring) I am just looking at it, blurring my vision so I just see the colors, that is more entertaining.

5 minutes go (Kel is still asleep, Hero is eating Goldfish), 15 minutes past (Kel is snoring), finally 20 minutes (cookie time!) I make my way to the pan and take 2 of the biggest cookies. I take a bite and it all just melts in my mouth, the chocolate oozes out and the cookie itself just falls off with each bite. Mari puts a cookie in her mouth, looks at Hero, and pushes her neck out, still with the cookie in her teeth she smiles. Hero blushes but goes along anyway, he leans towards Mari and takes half of the cookie she held in front of him. It was like the spaghetti scene of Lady and the Tramp.

Everybody says their goodbyes, Hero gives Mari a big hug and sends us off. (Kel is still asleep), I walk home, me and Mari don't say a word. I step into the cold house and head straight upstairs to my room. My comfortable bed, I want to sleep. I fold open the blanket and lay inside. I curl up and fall sound asleep.
