Dani's foot tapped against the floor of Tina's living room to the tune of Beat It by Michael Jackson as she brought the red solo cup up to her lips, the fruity taste of the punch feeling like the best thing she had ever drunk. It wasn't (she would never betray Dr Pepper like that), but Dani still welcomed the way it made her feel slightly buzzed. Her dark eyes moved to where Peter stood with the basketball team, a grin on his lips and a beer on one of his hands.

So much for Dorothy and the Scarecrow.

Deep down, she felt happy that Peter was making friends other than herself, but she'd half hoped that they could spend Halloween together, like old times. He had promised her that he'd be back soon when Jason and Patrick had showed up and dragged him off, but soon had turned into an hour, and Dani had found herself surrounded by her fellow members of the Archery club. It wasn't terrible, but it still took all of her willpower to stay decently sober.

"Did you see his ass?"

Dani raised an eyebrow at the light brown haired girl next to her, a freshman that had probably snuck out of her house to even be at the party. She hadn't memorized her name yet; she was pretty sure it started with an F, but that was all she remembered. Well, that, and the way she was almost as good as her with a bow.

"Whose ass?" she questioned, the rest of the group turning to look at her. She shrugged, "I zoned out for two minutes and you're talking about ass. I want to know."

"She's talking about the new kid," Ella answered, taking a sip out of her cup. She was disguised as a witch, claiming that Halloween was the night she could dress as the person she truly was, "What's his name? William?"

"Billy."

"Jackass," Dani replied at the same time, earning her more looks from the members of the Archery club, "I mean, you're fine if racist pig is your type. Personally, I'd like to knock out his teeth. All of them."

"You want to knock out everyone's teeth," Ella rolled her eyes, earning a chuckle from Dani. Out of everyone in the club, she was the least bothered by her temper, and the one she got better along with. Dani wouldn't go to the length of calling her a friend, but she also wouldn't say they were just mere acquaintances.

"Yeah, well, unfortunately I can't," she said, lips twisting into a grimace at the sight of her empty cup, "I promised like two different people that I wouldn't, and I never break my promises. Feels more like a curse than a blessing, right now."

Ella furrowed her eyebrows, her eyes pinned on Billy as he approached the corner where the basketball team was hanging out. Dani immediately searched for Peter, the way his grin grew smaller not going undetected. She squeezed the cup in her hand, crumpling it into a ball, before releasing it to the floor.

"There are ways to screw with people that don't involve violence, Dani," the girl said, giving her an exaggerated wink.

Dani tilted her head to the side, as she wondered what Ella was on about. It took her inebriated brain a second to realize that Ella meant something along the lines of a prank, and she cursed herself for not realizing it sooner. The other girl was notorious for her pranks in the locker room, and she never got in trouble for any of them. Of course, they were harmless, even if they were annoying.
